FYI - Do not need to be in a unit to win
- use google
- find out where the big units are dropping
- get short term contract
- use google again, find shared TS for the current meta house
- join house TS and win
never need to join a unit, but you will be exposed to the one that matter and will get an invite if you are decent.

Are you suggesting that this is a poorly-thought-out solution to an organic problem that occurred because many aspects of the game mode in question were poorly-thought-out to begin with?
Because, if so, you are correct.

You don't think it's unreasonable for a new player to go through all of that?

honestly?
Tweet Russ
constantly
That's what those QQing about "evil premades and groups and units" do
That's the only way you're going to even get his attention.
He actively ignored reading threads and dismisses their ideas out-of-hand without even reading them. That's from personal experience. That's from 3 years of experience in dealing with PGI.
Want results?
As much as it pains me to say it, complain on Twitter. He isn't going to listen to anything else.

I tried that actually, on 3rd of Feb. I asked him if we were going to get anything in the UI to help community or recruiting.
His answer?
Have not got one yet. Seems very keen to talk about ANYTHING other than the slow solo bias.....

keep doing it then. Get others to do it as well. It's honestly the ONLY thing he seems to listen to.

The only thing he entertains on Twitter right now are the "Solo queue is good" rhetoric.
I knew that's what it was going to be the second I saw a player tweet Russ directly and state "I don't play CW because it wasn't fun"
Want to know what Russ' response was?
So you would have more fun with a solo queue is what you're saying?
Nowhere did the player tweeting Russ mention ANYthing in regards to units, groups, solo, etc. That's when I knew without a doubt that Russ has an extreme bias over this, has tunnel vision, and is going to try and twist anything anyone sends him into the solo issue.

I don't actually see recruiting as being much of an issue. A lot of TBRN's recruits come to us through the forums here at MWO or through Steam. I don't see that changing. As far as in-game goes, we've never really recruited in-game or pushed commercials while playing. TBRN's thinks it a bit tacky to do so. Granted, we have had pilots seek us out after a match if they were impressed with our performance, so we will miss that. However, I'd say that 75% of our recruitment is primarily through the forums or word of mouth anyways, so it won't be too much of a loss.

What your'e also failing to take into account is that throughout the history of Btech PC games, there are certain factions that are much more popular than others due to cartoons, literature, mainstream entertainment, etc.
Wolf
Wolf's Dragoons
Jade Falcon
Davion
Steiner
Kurita
are all vastly more popular and even well-known to people who don't play Btech or Btech related games be that PC or otherwise. It's one of the reasons certain factions do REALLY poorly for a while after a large influx of players. The new players tend to flock to those factions and it's rough until it evens out.
The forums have honestly just become an echo chamber for players to talk about the game. They aren't taken seriously by the company. They aren't treated as anything more than a glorified lobby by the company itself.

True enough about the Factions. TBRN's a Merc Unit so we're constantly changing sides. However, if I were a solo pilot, I'd probably just work for Davion or Wolf and that'd be it.
True about the forums as an echo chamber too. It's frustrating that you pretty much have to just use Twitter to talk with PGI. I refuse to open a Twitter account simply because PGI won't use its own forum.
