Impressive? I can think of a few cool ones. Woodsman, Fire Falcon same pod space and speed as a cheeto but 5 tons lighter, Stooping Hawk, Lolcust IIC (8 ERSL), commando IIC... a bunch really

But Iconic ones from this era? To the TT nerd, Viper and Dasher are the last of the original invasion clan mechs we have to add.

Plenty of things 'impressive', just not as 'iconic' as what we have now.

I still want my Viper...everyone seems to be forgetting about it. Only TRO 3050 omni not released yet (other than the Dasher but that's a known issue limiting its release). I mean, yeah it might not be 'GREAT' but with the combination of PGI hardpoint inflation and omni system I could use it to a decent bit of effectiveness. :D

Nightgyr would be something. The Blood Asp would likely obsolete most assault mechs. There are some very interesting IIC mechs. There is also the Bane.

There aren't many iconic omnimechs left in timeline. Sadly the Blood Asp isn't coming for a bit. Hopefully Pgi bumps the timeline up. Feel free to check out some lore here: https://mwomercs.com...ore-start-here/

The timeline already is getting bumped with the Kodiak depending on the variants they use.

The problem with the Dragonfly, is 8.5t of pod space for weapons and equipment, after factoring in the 8 hard wired JJ's in all configurations... That's almost half the pod space of the Mech it 'replaced', the Coyotl would have 15t of pod space....

Really needs collisions for it to work.... I love strapping MG ammo all over them, then sprinting at the OpFor... Ram a Mech and hope for that MG ammo to blow....

No, it's not impossible even with our current engine.

Speed is relative. The speedo says 170 kph, but the game translates that however it wants to. Reduce the overall relative speed to accommodate for the Fire Moth's top speed. Only requires a few changes in the engine DB, nothing else need be done to individual mechs.

Now, granted, this isn't ideal as everyone would be going relatively slower. Not ideal is FAR from impossible though.

QFT the reason we have a speed cap is that is the speed that allows you to hit mechs with warping hit reg.

So no not possible, and maybe possible with CryEngine 4

In the 3052 timeline you get the Black Lanner medium and Linebacker heavy mechs. Not so iconic, as most of the mechs deemed "iconic" for the clans are either present during the start of the IS invasion, or come in the post-invasion years. Both the Lanner and the 'Backer were important mechs in the middle period, as new developments that occurred while the invasion was still a thing, but more notable after the first push fails.

I'd happily take a Linebacker, as it's very unique amongst mech types present in MWO, but many people want the Black Lanner.

The Black Lanner is such a bad mech.... 55t with 13t of pod space.....

Hell there is a 40t clan mech with more pod space, the Coyolt has 15t of pod space, and she is 15t lighter than the Black Lanner....

More speed + more armor = less pod space. Linebacker is the same way... fast and well armored, but less guns.

But give me one good reason to take a Black Lanner over a Storm Cow, please?

Sure the Black Lanner is fast, sure it can have lots of hard points, but it doesn't have the tonnage available to fill them, and ECM is not a reason to include it....

As for the Black Lanner's speed, it's as fast as the Coyotl before the Black Lanner's MASC kicks in....

Wouldn't one make the same arguments against using a Cicada? Why have a mech 15 tons heavier than a lighter mech it performs exactly like? Simple answer... survivability. The same reason you take the Cicada.

Looking at the speed of the Lanner, you're in light mech territory. 120's after speed tweak, plus MASC's new totals of 20% or so boost puts you in the 140's boosted. You're not carrying much more weaponry than a 35-ton mech, but you're carrying the same speed and double the armor and internals. You're going to be able to do the same roles that lights do, but be more survivable.

That's why you take a Cicada, and that's why you'd take a Lanner or 'Backer.
