Any of you hardcore vets know the official reason there is no rearward view option in this game?
Previous MW games had it and it fits with lore etc etc
I could not care less about rearward weapons but it would be nice to take a quick behind me.

It has to do with the game engine.

For now, PGI can't add anything like without stressing the game engine.

If you look around for "rear view" or "reverse camera" you'll find a lot more technical information about it.
Example:
Can't make a quote, so here it goes

Edit - Thanks to Bilbo, here it goes, the quote:

Greetings all,

The problem with any other directional view is the CryEngine and not 'just making the second view'.

CryEngine can only display a single view at any one time, as we see with the zoom view.
- Just the same view direction rendered on top of the original in a small window.

CryEngine is limited in this application, but that doesn't mean that we can't have different views.
- We may be able to completely change the look direction to another angle, basically, fully engaging this 'other view'.
(remember only one view allowed.)
- But, there are many aspects that need to be changed for anything like this to even start, additional designs for how the Pilots actually look around, new code to go with the reintroduction of knockdown and possibly the feature DFA (jump, 'death from above')

Again, it's the game engine not PGI stopping this.

While Cryengine is an excelent choice for a *person on foot* shooter or some 3rd person thingy where you could rotate your view, it is an awfull choice for a sim style game.

If you click the light switch in the upper left corner of the reply box, you should regain the ability to quote.

rear view mirrors/cams come up from time to time.

The answer: CryEngine can't do it.

Try asking again if PGI gets an updated version of the Cryengine. I have no idea about the exact details but it was mentioned in the last town hall.

Swing and a miss.
That isnt always practical, and even in some circumstances impossible.
Im sure you knew that already though.
