This Battlemech is literally paper and slow for its weight class,
so why not use said title and let it be able to kill UAVs with high efficiency
while allowing it to fire at mechs on higher ground?

That would be funny and I like the idea! Maybe not the 360 degree twist since it's reserved for the Urbie.

Thor needs the 360 twist first.

Rifleman should have unlimited elevation/depression, able to aim behind itself even, though I'm not sure how that would work in practice...

As you continue to move your aim upwards, your view will be reversed (the world is upside down) when you go past 90 degree (from the horizontal) to aim at something behind you.

But how will you see? Will you be aiming past the rear bulkhead of your cockpit? Will there be a rear view camera?

Uh, I didn't think of that. It was assumed that the camera is fixed to the arms.

Yes, I agree. It is slow and fairly big and not basically a Jaeger or Blackjack. Make it different. 360 twist and 180 up. I do like the upside down camera reversed arms idea - although technically we are supposedly looking out a windshield. Maybe the zoom module window could serve.

Technically by lore, Mechwarriors don't use the cockpit window for their vision, and mostly rely on their mech sensors, which provide them a 360* view that is compressed into a 180* viewband that they use.

Shouldn't be any problem with the arms doing the full 360* spin, and whenever they flip past 180* you begin looking from behind your mech with the verticle axis reversed to help relay that you are looking behind you.

Absolutely. There are several points in the books where that exact capability is discussed.

I believe the Blackjack in lore can also pull that move ( flipping the arms to shoot backwards... this also means we need a rear view camera... just put a reticle on it ;) )

No mech ever had 360 torso twist though... let it remain a MWO joke just for the urbie.

Yep, previous iterations of MechWarrior also.

In MW4 running away at full speed while Alpha'ing frantically at pursuing enemies was known as the "RFL Hustle".

yea i want to see more 360 mechs. other mechwarrior games have had a lot more. i wouldnt say retrofit existing mechs with it unless they are serious underperformers, but you could bring in new gift store varients.

also rifleman should all be able to aim straight up, given their aa role.

I'm not keen on the 360 torso twist... HOWEVER, it definitely should have a massive arm pitch. Able to shoot way up above it and such...or down below it.
