I'm curious about the opinion of the community.

PGI needs to continue to add Steam releases and support, i.e. trading cards/profile backgrounds

You cant just launch on STEAM ignore it for an eternity and expect to do well.

Steam diluted the toxic community that already exists, so I guess it's a slight improvement.

Personally as long as they buy stuff and aren't jerks I don't care.

steam has been great
lots and lots of new players
much faster drops
some fresh and sometimes wacky ideas mixing up the game play
its helping the tier system work much better too as more people make their way up the ranks and settle in

have quite enjoyed all the wide eyed newbies discovering all sorts of things for the first time
kinda jealous of them you know, i had all that with mech warrior 2, its not something you ever get to have again

On one hand, it helped the overall population of the game, and that was sorely needed. On the other, they just let newcomers wander into CW drops with zero experience and a handful of trial mechs to get slaughtered by organized units that have been around for years. A little post-it note saying that CW was 'difficult' is kinda like saying a triple black diamond slope is 'a little steep, please use caution'.

I'd say for the better. New players are always a good thing. More people to play, more sales for PGI, less toxicity, more exposure for the franchise, etc...

Yeah, definitely a good thing.

It was a soft launch on steam. They didnt try to hard to make it super popular. I honestly think that MechWarrior Online has all the players its wants at the moment. That makes me sad since I think it could be way more popular and fun for existing players if it was a full game. :)

They are doing heavy construction so maybe some time it will be more feature complete and not missing so many game play elements. It would make sense at that point to put it on Steam front page again maybe.

I honestly haven't noticed much difference. I see some new names but I also still see a lot of familiar names in most games.

The real kicker is that if it has been all "that" successful on STEAM, why hasn't there been any follow up in the STEAM Store?

Has anyone seen a random MWO window pop up in "featured games" since then? Why not? Is it too expensive? PGI too cheap? what?
