The monthly patch schedule might have something to do with Steam.
I wonder if Steam charges developers every time they patch their game? Console's do (up to $40,000 a patch through their network), but I couldn't find a good answer about how Steam handles patches through their system. For all I know, patching through Steam might be free.

With all the regularly updated indie games on Steam I'm going to say no, they don't charge.
The man reason Microsoft charge so much for patches is because they have to vet every update and make sure it isn't malicious / destructive / against ToS. Steam is much more open, which is pretty obvious now with the amount of terrible games on it.

Quite some players were vocally strong about pve and a single player campaign.this is the price we all have to pay for that.

I'd like to see more frequent balance patches.

these should be weekly imho. also they should be based on the output of a balance bot, rather than russ's feelings.

do that an i wouldn't care if patches (bugfix+content) were every other month.

Do you know what happened last time they tried to use a "balance bot"?

Well it was more like a super sekret balance formula that they tried to push onto the PBE that led to things such as this:

thats kind of disturbing lol. but it actually looks like a rounding error. they probibly copy pastad right out of their spreadsheet without thinking that the number was bogus.

nah a balance bot just needs to look at the weapon/mech performance, and perform a very small tweak (almost undetectable by normal players) according to performance every week. this changes the results and next week the bot can tweak it again. it does this for years until balance is perfect. it also makes the whole thing future proof. pgi can add content whenever they want and the system will balance it for them.

WHAT concERNS me is the FUNCtion of your shIFT key. I think IT MAY be stickING.

Seriously though, now we're latching on to monthly patches as the reason why the game is doomed? Three consecutive weekends of record player numbers doesn't exactly sound like the game is doing badly.

We all know that PGI has had QA issues with patches, so it makes sense for them to reduce the pace and do more testing.

Record number of players in a free to play game means success?

And you think PGI will spend the time doing more testing?

Ummmm.

I've read some pretty stupid stuff on this forum, but gosh this has got to be one of the stupidest op's I've ever seen. If anything, increasing the time between patches would be a good thing because then PGI will have more time to test for bugs. Man, brain cells are a hard thing to come by nowadays.
