seems like they are actively trying to find that critical point in the community... to offer the least possible content for the most possible price. That is what a salesman should do actually... but there is a limit to how far you can push.

Entirely true, they will find out the easy way or the hard way during the overall product lifecycle.

I dont give PGI as much credit as to knowing exactly what they were selling. Currently, with the unseens, sure. More experience with the Balance(yeah, dont laugh) and the overall CW-less meta.

Clan Invasion had the best 'value' but also many sub-standard mechs which some like the Summoner are still not that great. Also Invasion HAD to be big. IGP debacle and players were getting weary.
I would say they were shooting in the dark but had to deliver lots of new shiny to keep players.
Worked...but not the most elegant move. Could have been the end for PGI just as easily.

Resistance 1 is overall ok. Wave 2 had one really good mech, and one really bad. Wave 3 had 2 goods, one Lore sale, and one that might be fixed by quirks. Resistance 2 was overall ok.

Urbie showed people would pay for 1 single chassis. Wave of the future in a joke package. Funny that.

Origins was meh though potentially game breaking. Jenner llc disapoint. HBK with some structure could be great. But still early to tell overall performance.

Now, the Unseens, this is how they will go, because of the Urbie.

Formula would likely be Russ asking 'Hey what mech from lore do you want to see?' and there will be a poll. Poof! That mech will be up in a package. Then tease visually - one of PGI's strong points. Then release tiered pack with 2-3 upsale options.

And also think about what else there will be to sell, 'poke-mech' wise after all the main unseens are sold?
Will they have to advance the timeline? Introduce new tech that will need balance?

How hard and fast should PGI push them? Too fast players will get burned out, too slow players lose interest. Right now they have many new Steam players, likely wise to be more aggressive. I dont know the retention of Steam players, dont know if PGI knows either. MWO has an unusual format compared to other games.

So i dont think the whole story is told just comparing the individual packs now to Clan Invasion.

Overall, i can give them a pass on being more aggro on maximizing profit on individual pack salesIF that money goes to developing CW-balance-maps-modes/etc. And developments have been encouraging though a bit slow.

If all they do is sell packs and no development, ill be out. No regrets.

and also included in the origins pack:
24 colors + 4 faction patterns(1500 each) and 12 mechbays

even the single skin in the Kodiak pack is not offered after Feb 29th

Just saying, No HERO skins have ever been offered, ever for any mech other then the heros they came on.

Just saying

Well, the $20 pack has the one im mainly interested in - the KDK-3 with its 4 torso mounted ballistic slots**, so i can probably be happy with that pack. Not getting collectors for sure, since the KDK-1 is very definitely not going to be my favourite variant, i don't want the Hero, because its missile focused, so its either 20$ or 35$ if i decide to go for the 2 extra (one is interesting for STD engine, twin gauss, twin LPL shield side, or 2xUAC10 + lasers)

**LOLOLOL bye bye Dire. You are now 100% obsolete, come May 17th.

Needless to say MWO is always a bit overpriced, but people dont seem to mind. I on the other hand will gladly get the $20 dollar package but there is about an ice cubes chance in hell id EVER pay $70 dollars for basically ONE CHASSIS.

Okay.

If you don't want it, don't buy it. You can always wait for them to come out for cbills or MC. The heroes come out a few months after they're released for cbills. Same system that has been in place for years. Quit crying about prices, because the only job you have is Chief Whiner of MWO Forums. Some of you are the same people lauding over other about how much money you've spent and how much your opinion means more, but in the same breath you talk about prices.

I'm going to buy them and screenshot the receipt for you, so you can be salty and poor at the same time.

I sang this post the entire time I was typing it. Hopefully a little diddy and tune makes this post extra salty for youuuuuuuuuuuu.

And if you think $70 for 6 mechs is too much you need math lessons.

its actually 70$ for ...nothing. you dont "own" those mechs. you dont own anything. you just get early acess to something. if pgi closes 19 may you wont get anything in return and you will still have nothing to call your "own". so yeah...its a bit much.

that's still too much for me to really be interested but it isn't $70

And this isn't an Omnimech so you can use those XL400 elsewhere or sell a couple and bank a pile of C-bills!!!

No you can't as there is no other mech in the game that can mount an XL400.

You can only convert to cbills but I doubt that's a good ratio compared to the champ Cicada (or whatever mech is best value MC>CBills atm).

They got me at "Kodiak"...
I'm siding with the "prices are reasonably fair" bunch.

But there's one thing i don't get and that's the "Reinforcements add-on".
I am trying to find reasons that justify buying it.
Oh i am probably buying it and it's not about the $15, but i just can't see Why...

with this mech im not really interested beyond the basic 3. i know with the rifleman and warhammer that the hero seemed to bring the interesting hardpoints, but in this case they dont.

As to the pricing of this mech. Ill throw money at it. Its reasonable. 6 assault class clan mechs for 50USD. the good thing with this is what some have said before. You kinda know what you are getting. 6 variants of a battlemech in a neat package is good to me. Its pretty much all of them I think.
Dont have the money to throw at this atm but ill get to it before the adopters time closes.

No, there are none. Like in not a single one. So you can only sell them.

I just realised. My bad. But selling what 6 xl 400 engines would bank a fair amount of cbills right?

One of the reinforcements is useful, the other is c-bills when you sell it. The Spirit Bear however is unique. MASC, its basically an AS7-S that can burst 90ishkph.

18 millionish. Then add the 6.5m from the early buyer bonus. More if you sell the kdk-1 (because you also have 1(S)) and the 5 because its pointless.

I still like the comments being made that getting a piddly three mechs or four mechs for $20 or $35 is "good" pricing. No it's not. It's still f'n ridiculous. It's just that one will notice $20 or $35 being gone from their bank account far less than $70.
