It might be because of lack of tons or slots. If the weapon is red in one means that it will not fit.

The other is in Clan mechs there is specific hard pints for a type of weapon.

Other than that, are you using a trial mech? If you don't own the mech, you can't change equipment on it.

Did you just click the weapon or drag and drop?

you can remove any weapon or ammo just by double-clicking on them. After that just drag&drop the new weapon from the warehouse in the slot you want. Make sure you remove ammo as well and get new ammo for the lrm.

I usually use the "strip mech" function to remove any equipment and then add all the things I want to mount in that mech.

You were just clicking on the weapon. You need to drag and drop because that way you can specify where you want the weapon to go. It doesn't matter on your mech so much, but it matters on other, heavier mechs.

I have found a issue moving a already selected weapon to another mech area, having to remove it and then place it in the new area.

To add a weapon you need to drag and drop it, as the guys above said.

look on the Mech, you should see a green coloured missile icon and a number on the top (of free hardpoints of that type) of components with missile hardpoints (in the case of the RVN-2X that is right torso only)

make sure there is at least 1 free missile hardpoint then drag the LRM5 onto the component and drop it, you must have at least 2 tons free and at least 1 slot free to place the LRM5, you will also need some ammo, 1 ton of LRM ammo is usualy sufficient for a single LRM5.
