[Hit the Deck]

Sometimes when I alt+tab the game's window, it minimizes and maximizes itself endlessly which makes me have to close the program. There are already complaints from people about alt+tabbing problems in MWO but I honestly never read them so I'm badly informed about the situation.

Happens to me as well. I hit ctrl+alt+del and open task manager. That then allows me to open MWO on its own and continue playing.

I have never had that problem. Alt tab doesnt work for me when i play mwo. I know its weird. It just does nothing for me. I leave a program like calculator or something running minimized. So if i need to alt tab it tabs to my calc. Thats my only work around. Dunno if ppl have this problem.

dont like the games draconian control over my desktop. it cant be minimized, you can get out of it and go to something else, but the second you close it the game steals the screen. annoying.

Correct, you need someone open or "running" in the background to alt+tab to. For me its usually Firefox.

Try running it in borderless window-mode if you can. That could help a lot since the game doesn't have to minimize that way.

sometimes it goes haywire when I tab back in just as a map finishes loading. otherwise as long as I have another window to tab to it works fine, I just wait for the taskbar icon to flash letting me know the game has loaded

I use Alt+Tab a lot, never once had a problem, and you can Alt+Tab to desktop too, you don't need another program open.

Had similar issues, then switched to full windowed mode and have never crashed again due to tabbing. But I do have to have something open in the background to tab to as others have mentioned.

In full screen mode it happens but I can't get shadowplay to work in windowed. Anyhow it happens when the team screen loads mostly. If I do it once tha match has started it seems to work.

This happened to me all the time, till I switched to full windowed, now I can alt-tab all day long at anytime no issues. There is a better way!

If you performed a clean install of windows 10, you've lost the atl-tab to desktop option. If you upgraded from windows 7 and above you should still have it.

That should explain what's happening for some of you.

I used alt-tab a lot with my old computer.
Now that I have a shiny new computer with i7 processor, and I can use 1920x1080 resolution, I can't use alt-tab.
Half the time it doesn't work. The other half of the time, it screws up the game graphics. When I click on the icon to go back into the game, it's zoomed-in, pixelated, and rearranged.
(Using the Task Manager to get out of the game has the same effect.)

My only fix, so far, takes a couple of minutes: I have to go to Settings, switch my resolution, save (and wait), then switch my resolution back to 1920x1080.

Heaven forbid I should alt-tab out again to do a Google search for a solution...
I got back in the game and the Settings button had been pushed off the screen.

I tried switching from "full screen" to "full window", and the game looked terrible. All the text was screwed up, and the Settings button was hidden behind my taskbar.

The old computer and the new computer both have Windows 7. If it's not an issue for the old one, it shouldn't be an issue for the new one. But, there it is...

The old computer has some Lenovo bloatware that caused other problems, and I assembled the new computer myself with a clean install of Windows.

Like most modern games, running it in borderless windowed mode fixes all tabbing problems.

Yeah, just run the game in full windowed mode. Not full screen, not windowed; full windowed.

Not always ideal though. Some video capture doesn't work unless it's in full screen mode, because MWO is finicky like that. For me, I'd rather not cook my toaster by rendering the game when I'm not tabbed into it. So full screen it is. But it causes random crashes when you alt-tab. I haven't heard of any other games that have this problem, it's ridiculous.

While it fixes most alt tab issues, I get less crashes and the minimise/max cycle nonsense, I have been getting a bug every now and again (caused by alt tabbing while MWO loads happen) where I then can't alt tab out of MWO. I can only see the task bar and the icons of my open programs there, and holding the alt and hitting tab to select progs doesn't bring the selected prog to the front, the start menu is accessable and overlays normally, so does task manager, but MWO just doesn't minimise and nothing else is allowed to come to the front.

These alt tab issues, full windowed or full screen are nothing what so ever to to with those modes or windows and have been rampant and persistant in MWO since it was first in beta. can't think of a single game where fullscreen or windowed fullscreen is as borked lol.

I know this is an old topic, but the 01/23/2018 patch changed my video settings. to "full screen" from "Full Window". Two things I noticed and it was driving me crazy.

• The game play was VERY VERY jerky. Had a hard time with it
  
• Alt-Tab stopped working.

Changed it to full window - solved the issue
