What Is There To Do In This Game?

played MW2 for some time long ago, found this game and decided to give it a try. Started about 2 weeks ago, getting bored of quick play but was a lot of fun at first. Don't like CW at all, 15 min before you even start to fight is just too long and it seems to be pretty one sided from just the few battles I have been in. I won't be doing them anymore but what else is there? Am I missing anything else? I would hate to move on after just two weeks but not seeing anything else to do.

No, that's really about it. Could find a team (or even just a group of other folks on the casual) to drop with in group queue, but it's basically solo queue with slightly less aimless wandering.

The key is to either join a CW dropping unit as a squad, or look at the numbers on the planets.

A drop is 12 man, so at 12 - 24 -36 -48 -50 etc that means the drop is full and happening right now.

If you see on the left for attack or right for defence, the numbers are a little bit below, join that and you will get quicker games.

This means the other side needs 12 groups as well, or you will be waiting for a ghost drop or the other side to fill up.

Battles generally will be as a unit trains together, plans, and kills you. They also use team speak to call out important information.

Find some friends and form public drop groups with them, the game is much better that way.

At the end screen click the match stats and then you can ask to friend someone Posted Image

Honestly, group up with people, the game becomes very different when you have a group to play with, and I assume you haven't started owning mechs, and customizing them yet, which adds another avenue in the game.

I think as most of that MMO games the motivation comes from having & collecting virtual goods.
In that case these goods are Battlemechs and the stuff you mount on them.
To do so you play battles, or pay.

Similar concept like in World Of Tanks, Armored Warfare, Warthunder,
even World of Warcraft is similar, but there you have that avatar instead of mechs and you get some story & quest ...

For many of us it's just a love of the franchise that keeps us going. When things get boring for me I often look for a play style or mech that I have been avoiding and try my hand with that different challenge. I have played for about 2 years and just a few weeks ago I purchased 2 Awesomes an 8V and 8R to go with my original Awesome 8Q (which i hadn't touched in over a year) and tried out the 8R missile boat which was also a first for me.

Just this week I purchased an Atlas DC and RS to go with my original Atlas (purchased when I first got the game big mistake LOL) and learning how to deal with being a big slow but extremely dangerous target which is much different from the mediums and heavies i usually prefer to pilot. Really the drive is just trying to do the best I can no matter how fast the situation goes to hell.

The events and challenges that the game does on a semi-regular basis are also something to look forward to, and they usually have C-Bill/MS/item rewards, occasionally even mechs or mech bays as part of the prizes.

As others have said, dropping with a group changes the dynamic a lot. Also in the next couple months, Faction Warfare is getting another large expansion and some new game modes coming into the game.

A lot of the fun is pushing your skills, learning new mechs, experimenting with builds. Even the direct combat itself is a lot more fun with people you know (either that you get to know through playing with them or if you already know people who play).

Most groups use Teamspeak/Discord/Steam chat/Skype in addition to the in game VOIP. I have people that I know who play in different states and a couple in different countries and we drop together as a group occasionally and BS on chat at the same time, especially between matches.

Outside of pug-dropping in Faction Warfare, or the standard quickplay matches, there isnt much else to do in MWO....yet.
There is of course mech collecting and customizing (I have around 160 mechs), and in the future there is going to be a PVE campaign in the game. But dont expect that anytime soon.

Honestly what you want out of the game depends on you. Do you enjoy doing quick-play matches? Do you want to join a merc/faction/clan to put your group tag on a planet?

Improve? That's been the most fun for me, working to improve my skills all the time.

There are a number of unofficial leagues ("comp play"). That, for me, is the main thing going in MWO besides just the plain fun of it (CW bores me to tears).

The current progression is mostly about:

1) Deciding which mechs you want to pilot/own. Which Clan, which Inner Sphere, which classes (light-medium-heavy-assault), which type of build (close-in brawler, medium range skirmisher, long range support, fast scout), which (if any) weapons types you want to experiment with (PPCs, Lasers, Autocannons, Gauss Rifles, short and long range missiles).

This should give you a list of anywhere from half a dozen to dozens of mechs you want to pilot (hundreds, for some players).

To purchase and hold all those mechs, you need (cash currency) and/or lots of Cbills, and mech bays. To acquire mech bays, you need either again, or to earn them in events and CW as according to this thread:
http://mwomercs.com/...-free-mech-bay/

2) Taking your first mechs (and occasionally some Trial mechs) and playing Quick Play and CW to pile up Cbills, Mech bays, and the Experience points needed to 'elite' the mechs you own so they perform at maximum efficiency.

3) While doing the above, learn the maps and the techniques required to be a good MechWarrior.

4) While doing the above, tweet the devs every few days saying "I would spend money on your game if there was more to do than QuickPlay and CW."

I would like to add that every weight class might as well be it's own game. They all handle in such different ways My two favorites are lights, and assaults, personally, but right now I'm trying to not suck in the heavies department (leveling Warhammers), and each weight class and role require completely different mindsets. I find a lot of enjoyment in that. Whenever I'm bored with 94 damage alphas in my DWF, I hop into my lone Atlas to try and brawl (usually celebrating if I can make it to 300 meters of an enemy without losing a side torso), or back into my true love (the Commando), and run around causing endless rage among the red team.

Once I've fully basic'd all the WHM variants I actually plan to reboot my SHD-5M poptart sniper.

CW is a beta and is undergoing several improvements in the near future.

Reducing attack lanes will 'tighten up' and reduce the 'spread' of players to make them funnel up, voting system to choose who to attack each day.
New game mode is sure to make things a little more interesting with its 4 vs 4 feature and structured mission.
Beyond this not sure what else can be said without it being speculation based on what is shown.

Thanks for some really great information. Will try looking at some of the numbers and see if I can speed up the drop times. I tried sending friend invites to some of the old MW2 friends I could remember but I'm sure many of them changed their names over the years like I have. I used to go by SlayerBme and loved piloting my Thor as my favorite mech. Flying high and landing on enemy mech's, knocking them down or often killing them. MKII was probably my next favorite.
I went all out and bought the big clan mech package from the store and have been working on leveling them up. just found out a little over a week ago how to do that by having 3 variants of a mech. Have my Dire and Timber Wolves leveled up, working on my Nova and Stormcrow's now and then the kit fox and Adder and then maybe my Summoner or Warhawks. After that I may pick up some IS Mech's and work on a couple of them.
Was just getting tired of the grind and decided to try out CW last night and didn't like the experience. Will try all your great recommendations and see if I enjoy it more.

Thanks,
Brewmen

I personally recommend getting on the Smoke Jaguar Teamspeak server and grouping up there. Somke Jaguars always had good pug groups.

What do you do in Dark Souls? You Die.
What do you do in TES Skyrim? You get OP.
What do you do in Diplomacy? You screw people over.

What do you do in MWO? You shoot robots.

So, yeah, you shoot lots of robots and make fun of Pugs. Fun enough for me.
