Actually, no. MW1 didn't have them. Neither did MW2. It was added in MW3.

Actually, Battlemech coolant booster systems do exist, but they actually require being equipped to a Mech and take up critical spaces/tonnage (and notably cannot be mounted on Omnis). Dumping part of the coolant in a 'Mech without replacing it actually -reduces- heat removal, rather than increasing it, canonically speaking.

Um, no? Mainly because you can unlock the Cool Shot 9 to become the 9x9 which gives it the exact same cooling abilities as the 18? For free? I.e. - you can do it through normal grinding? It was one of the first things I did once Modules were introduced. To this day, I still haven't used MC to purchase a Cool Shot.

The gating for the upgrade is pretty large... at least for when you're starting out.

Effectively for all the consumable upgrades, you spend 15k GXP to gain double the output. That's kinda insane.

10k for the Cool Shot 6 is competing with the 40k base Cool Shot 9... where the money invested makes no sense until the upgrade.

Same things can be said for the non-upgraded consumables - it's not worth spending 40k on the consumable until it is upgraded. Effectively, there's no reason to use consumables when you're starting out - this is a bad handicap - very similar to the efficiencies changes (prior to the recent nerf, the difference between basic and an elited out mech is pretty significant in some/many areas).

So, while it isn't P2W, but the barrier to entry for a new player is pretty bad when it comes to consumables (and a lot of other things).
