as i noted i have two burning questions. 1 in academy you have a gauntlet to go through and you are stuck on a bridge most of the way and the opposing mechs are either hidden from view as you approach the waypoint or are at a position you wont see and can fire on until after you have passed the waypoint. How in sam hill can you pass guantlet especially with raven you get put in most of the time. 2 in the combats i have noticed something kinda odd. heavy and assault mechs that can som, ehow move around on the map without showing up on the map without showing up as a triangle or on the map. How are they doing that.

#2 - Until someone targets them, no mech automatically lights up with the position indicator aka "triangle" or "dorito." ECM can also suppress the position indicator if they are within 90m of it and not being PPC'd/TAG'd.

Firing also causes you to show up. ECM coverage can stop targeting as well.

I'll answer and expand on your two questions, but first...
Spoiler

That said...

1) In the Academy's Ravens, you don't. (You could but it involves a lot of twisting and knowing what the path will be.) In a custom, owned Raven it's very easy to do even without any knowledge, just do 30 front side armor and 2 rear, center torso 4 rear and rest front. You're set and tanking like a boss. The stock Ravens, due to hit boxes, are screwed in that situation. Try it in one of the Jenners or the Firestarter. This will give you a closer-to-actual experience.

1-B ) Note that you only need to make contact with the waypoints; you do NOT need to follow the path exactly. If using the Raven 3L make sure your ECM is activated. I'm aware that the computer's AI cheats like crazy, but even it has to follow the ECM rules (as it is the turret AI). However, if you keep from permitting a line of sight, you'll be able to go through the whole gauntlet without a single speck of damage. If the Raven 4X is available, jump over the buildings. (Using the firestarter I spent a chunk of the course on roof tops.)

2) Doritos, triangles... Bet it's confusing.

Consider this:
  • A hollow triangle is an enemy that SOMEONE can see, is within UP TO 900 meters of the person who sees it (that's assuming all kinds of range extending equipment, so probably closer), and is NOT targeted by anyone at all. OR.... someone that has been NARC'd, OR spotted by UAV.
  • A solid triangle or Dorito™ is an enemy that meets the positive conditions above (with or without the NARC and/or UAV caveat) and IS being targeted by someone.
An enemy with neither of the above... is any or all of the following:
  • Out of range for anyone to detect it.
  • Not being looked at by someone in range to detect it.
  • There's an invisible wall between you and your target (this happens with 'edges' close to buildings (pillars especially) and junk debris (Tourmaline Desert's ship parts).
  • Is carrying ECM that is not being countered.
  • (Possibly in the future as there has been talk of it) is using a sensor-spoofing consumable.
  • Is an enemy that is powered off and not within range of a Beagle Active Probe's powered-down detection capabilities.
Understood?

To show up: An enemy must be sighted, in range, powered on except within 180 meters of BAP, and in the case of ECM, must not be jamming.

ECM can be toggled with "j" by default on QWERTY keyboards. You can toggle between "disrupt" (which makes it harder for enemies to target you) and "counter" (which allows you to counteract one ECM close by).

It is. Won't stop the enemies from being able to shoot at you, but technically they should ignore you until....close enough for an ambush.

tried the gaunlet with a decked out jenner and got to checkpoint 7 before i was cut down. switched out to the dwf there by the base and made it through round one and to point 5 on round 2 but no farther. the mechs are behind rocks or buildings till you pass waypoint and you are in a bad spot and they open up then.

try a fast medium, I have no problem making it around 3 times in a properly outfitted Spider, have also done it in Cicada, Firestarter, Griffin and Thunderbolt, except the TDR (the one you complete basic training in) all were heavily modified for speeds of 100+ in the Griffin, max speed in the others
