Arms get a raw deal in MWO. The incentives to mount weapons in them are too weak.

1. Arm and Torso convergence is the same.
2. Torso hard points are usually higher.
3. Torso armour/structure values are higher
4. Arms are used somewhat sacrificially or used for armour tonnage savings.

The "how" is less the issue. Members on the forum have mentioned breaking convergence for torso weapons, or signature hard points, but there's no reason to restrict to these ideas.

Curious to see whether there's consensus that torso mounting is currently too easy a choice and what ideas there are to give arms more of a purpose.

It would be nice if arms with lower actuators could actually raise their arm to fire over cover or such.

Some kind of weird hand actuator bonus like better hill climbing or reduced cockpit shaking might be feasible too.

So you want to buff the **** out mechs that boat lasers in their arms even more?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for not having the mechs weapons converge...but if it's going to happen it needs to apply to arms too.

"All for not having the mechs weapons converge"

... you realise without convergence you'd hit virtually nothing most of the time, right? You could be staring right at something at close range and miss it completely.

Lower arm actuators are good for keeping your reticule on a fast light mech. Arm mounted weapons are also useful for shooting up and down (UAVs). If hoverjets were jumpjets instead, you might be able to get up to places where mechs with torso mounts would have to stand back to hit you.
