I had not even thought of game rights. I think it would be doable though. Hey Microsoft (assuming they own it) you can sit on this game which you have no intention of doing anything with at all, or you can let us remake it and we will give you 5% of the profit we make. If I owned the rights to that game it would be a no brainer to me.

Can we not take it that PGI own the game rights to the Mechwarrior franchise, which they bought from Microcrash. The problems started when FASA, also owned by Microcrash refused permission to use the Mechs from that game in the Mechwarrior game design. It would be impossible for this game to even get past the "Hey I got a good idea" stage without owning the game rights.

This is guesswork but...

Maybe the piece of the pie wasn't big enough. If they think a game will not make a profit they will ask for a lump sum. Now I don't know what was tossed back and forth but if they knew the game would make a profit...which they didn't. (there had not been one made for a while because of the questionably of profit) But if they did know I'm sure that some kind of arrangement could have been made.

It was a fun game, including some of the more goofy stuff, like the fact that you could switch the camera view to 1st person view from your Arrow IV missile

I'd only buy it if they actually made improvements to some of the finer mechanics, such as balance (THE LASER SUMMONER HAS NO BRAKES) and AI behaviour. Still, an update could be cool.
