I think the difference is that the Mad Dog mk2 has the same stats as the normal Mad dog, while the Mad Dog 2 (the mektek one) has a different build (75 tons for a start!) and is based on a fannon design. Basically anything that's in MekTek and nowhere else, is considered non-canon (while the mk2 is considered a canon design, if only just different in aesthetics)

It's a mess.

The MechWarrior 4 series actually showed the Medium Pulse Lasers in a chin rack, the results are the moving of the Medium Pulse Lasers into the Center Torso, this model is called the Mad Dog Mk II (Vulture Mk II) by the online BattleTech Community.
The canon status of the Mad Dog Mk II (Vulture Mk II) was confirmed by the Lead Developer in a ruling on the official forum on 21 Aug 2013:
“ ...The bottom line: The Mk. II is functionally identical to the original; it merely differs cosmetically. ”
— Herbert Beas, Line Developer, 21-Aug-2013
Although credited as a Ghost Bear redesign the Vulture Mk.II owned by Latonya Lyons is stated to be of Smoke Jaguar manufacture.

best to ignore metek and megamek whenever possible. Basically the back story is the Mad Dog II is a simplified construction version to be easier to produce in IS factories in the occupation zone.

The basic design was kept in the future produced mkIII and IV (though the IV is streamlined) but all stay at 60 tons.

Do not lower the stance of the maddog.

Why? Look how the timberwolf walks, it's ******* stupid looking.

Mad Dog stance is fine, leave it alone.

Laser barrels? I don't care Maddog looks fine to me, it's my favorite mech its sufficiently cool looking work on something else. I'm sure there are better things for them to be doing.

On the bright side, longer pewpew barrels might occasionally intercept shots aimed for the side torsos...

@russ_bullock Hey Russ, pretty big push on the forums for proper weapon barrels on the arms of the Mad Dog and Warhawk. Thoughts?

Not surprised you'd prefer it to walk like it has a stick up it's butt.

Also last I checked the Timberwolf and MadDog shared the same legs, posture, rigging, etc, unless that's been changed and I just didn't notice

Sure, it'd be nice. But longer square ones still look better than what we got. I prefer not to be short sighted

If your going to campaign to squat the Mad Dog (which it should be)
Then you can set about returning the Ebon Jag to its proper profile.

Lets do the exact opposite of what you are suggesting... how about that?

meaning:... Lower the damn satance on the maddog already... and add some concept art barrels.

and while we are at it... lets do it to the timber too:

I am a fan of them actually having "chicken Legs" like they are suppose to and not just reverse knee joint human legs.

Anyways I think what navid said is true, we had this discussion already of the TBR and MDD's chicken legs not being chicken enough.

They have a different walking animation. Whereas the Mad Dog seems a bit lighter on its feet with a more fluid walk and run, the Timber Wolf seems to actually stomp more. I would prefer the Timber Wolf get the Mad Dog's walk and run animations.

I think both 'mechs can use a lower stance though.

I loved my MDD but alas, it was mastered in short order and PGI provided more mechs for me to buy.

Can you do that for the Warhawk as well? Also, raise its arms up a little?

Then let Russ know. Here. On Twitter. They are preparing for a huge rescaling pass, and a lot of things that have been neglected til now appear to be on the table, and Russ is at least willing to listen.

So let him know.

see them Lasers on the Rifleman's arms? Now imagine those being the large lasers on your MDD. I don't know about you, but I want it.

Other thing I'm really hoping to see (since Russ is already fixing my beloved K2)? To see if they might fix the head on the Enforcer while they are tweaking things.

Speak up folks. No, we don't get everything we want (which would be tough since no two people can agree on anything, lol) but since Steam, seems like Russ's door has been open more than ever before. So be respectful, be understanding if it isn't on the agenda....but speak up. You just might be surprised.
