Should PGI use this plan to "reuse" maps?

It seems as though one of the main desires of the community is more maps to play on, but creating these maps can take quite a while.

The idea I had was basically to take the existing maps and "reskin" them as different environments.

For example, many people like Tourmaline. What I propose is taking existing assets, textures, etc. and making it into a desert map (Canyon Network), a temperate map (Forest Colony), a snowy map (Alpine Peaks/Polar Highlands), a volcanic map (Terra Therma), a swamp map (Viridian Bog), and so on. These maps would have similar shapes/terrain, but would look completely different and could have differences in ambient temperature, weather, and time of day. This would also be done with the other maps

This could also benefit CW by having numerous maps with the same environment so that each planet can have different maps of the same type, instead of 1) repeating the same map over and over, or 2) having combinations like Vitric Forge and Boreal Vault show up on the same planet.

The only thing is, would the community be okay with having multiple maps with the same general shape but each one using a different one of the existing environment types?

The same thing is true of starcraft and top down RPGs. You take common tilesets and build new maps or towns with it by rearranging the structure. No one goes into Town B thinking, oh, it looks just like Town A, unless the mapmakers were really lazy.
