Hi All,

This is my first post, looking forward to joing a UK lance if there is one going..

Something troubles me in regard to the mechs available, in BT lore a medium mech would be the workhorse of an army, due to its cost and upkeep.

But what would be the advatage to a player of mechwarrior online to field a Hunchback over an Atlas?? It isnt too much faster - not enough to get to the back of its adversary, and would be out armoured and outgunned...

Discuss!

Mechs I would like to see - Warhammer and later - Thor

The devs have stated that they want the Mediums to be considered the workhorse mechs.

Well, as of right now the main bonus would be the boost in speed that the hunchback has. Secondly, the hunchback allows you to CQB alot more effictively because your weapons are not mainly ammunition based. Also, with your weapons generating less heat, your mech would have a much less greater chance to overheat and leave you incapable of moving.

That is about all i can figure for that mech. THe spped is the main thing that i can see. If the Hunchback had jump jets there would be a bigger reason to field this mech because of increased mobility. Personally i would field the Atlas because of its imposing power and strength.

I would love to have the Uziel but we have to wait. Patience will allow us to see the greater return of the medium mech warhorse.

And yet, they've released equal numbers of all mech weight classes, rather than emphasizing mediums and lights as the fiction supports. Also, take a look at the mediums that have been released:

Centurion: The only medium released that could be considered a workhorse, but relatively slow.
Hunchback: A specialized AC20 carrier.
Cicada: An over-grown light mech.
Trebuchet: Another specialized cavalry/fire support mech.

You could argue that because the devs are allowing more liberal customization in the mechlab, any of these could be fitted to fill the role of a workhorse. However, that doesn't fly for folks that like to use only canon variants.

I'd rather see more mediums and lights released: Clint, Vulcan, Whitworth, Blackjack, Phoenix Hawk, Enforcer, and the classic three Shadow Hawk, Griffin, and Wolverine. I'd be happy if all of these mediums and a few lights were released before any more heavies or assaults.

Mediums will be a smaller target, run much faster, and offer better acceleration/deceleration, torso twist speed, torso twist range, and (maybe) offer more module slots

They're also a lot cheaper to buy! Maintenance costs are an unknown factor, but they are certainly cheaper to initially purchase.
