Dont worry, Ximinett, light mechs need TONS of experience in them and practically NEVER forgive errors, so in most cases one good alpha get´s rid of them .

But once you get past a certain point in your light-experience you start to harass, kill and leg like a beast with 3 times your actual weight ;)

Just started running lights myself, very fun but also a very steep learning curve. These are the least forgiving of all the classes by far but its sure fun to speed around the battlefield.

Everyone has some great ideas for lights and its one of the hardest mechs to play in my option, but the most rewarding when you take down a atlas or a direwolf when hes not looking.. You get more skill from playing a light than any other mech due to the fact you gain situational awareness and thats more important skill in the game...

If you get hit you die, so you transfer that to your med/heavy/assault mechs with your awareness around you.. Think of it like the " FORCE" Lol I know but you just get a feeling around you and look even if nothing is going on...

Hope that helps ya

Legs !
Legs strewn about errywhere !

Oh...lest I forget : don´t hop from a legged target to something more "threatening" ... legging a guy and leaving him sometimes transforms the mech and his pilots into SUPERSAYAJINS, which then proceed to happily hobble about and absolutely murder stuff ... as in :
"How dare you stealing my leg ... I SHALL STEAL YOUR LIFE NOW FOR SURE !" Posted Image

I had a game this weekend in solo queue where this happened. Tourmaline and I've been running around in my Jenner Oxide and making a nuisance of myself. Well some dude managed to leg me, then died to someone else's shot. We're down to 3 on 3 at this point and I'm not even a full mech anymore, so more like 3 on 2.25. I'm thinking, "Well, okay, crap. Might as well just hobble up to the top of this ridge and distract someone for half a second." I know there's a Thunderbolt on the other side of the ridge. So tump-tump-tump up the hill. Get to one of those little gaps between the crystal outcroppings. Sure enough, Thunderbolt crests at the same time. We stare at each other. Then a team mate shoots his back AND HE TURNS AROUND. I couldn't believe it. Big brassy backside and I've still got about a third of my SRM4s which promptly unload right into his CT. He died to a legged Jenner. It was so beautiful.

I survived to the end of the game. I tumped around the whole gorram map with my two teammates looking for a little Urbie. I think the Heavy was escorting me at that point because he was faster than I was but never got too far away for which I am thankful :-). Felt weird though. "It's okay, li'l buddy!"

You've already noted that not every light is the same. This is good. The Jenner IIC with SRM boating is an ambush predator. You've sacrificed speed for stopping power (I run a 255XL and 6X6 SRMs) and are going to need, yes NEED seismic. You have a couple of options for engaging the enemy, but by far the most powerful is to simply step out from behind a corner and rip off all their CT armor in a single shot. Watch out for UAVs. If they know you're there and you try to face-hug gank them, you're going to get ganked back, and that's not super-awesome with as little durability as these beasties have.

Your best prey is actually mediums, unlike most forms of light 'Mech, since you can outright one-shot many of them depending on their armor distribution and if they're running XL. I one-shot a Stormcrow earlier today from the front through only yellow-damaged CT armor. A stationary medium is as good as dead unless you can't hit the broad side of a Blackjack at 10 meters. Also good targets are heavies and assaults, since they rarely have the maneuverability to target you adequately, and you pack enough punch to gut them even if they manage to tag you. Lights are very dangerous, since they may be difficult to hit with your cloud of missiles and you're likely to spread damage all over them in accordance with their hitboxes instead of poking a hole into the good stuff like you can with stationary or slow targets. Sometimes you can scare them off of leg them, but they're generally something you don't want to mess with if you can help it.

Also, you will be slow. Not badly slow, but about medium slow. You can't rely on your speed to get you out of trouble every time like a fast light, and you can't pursue as effectively as a fast light. Radar Dep becomes a big help due to this, because LRMs will mess you up if you get into a brawl and don't have anything to help you break locks.

Additionally, with my build you run hot. It's the cost of having a 72 point alpha what with ghost heat being what it is. You want to strike twice and then either cool shot or get away. If they live, too bad. Hope your team kills them and you get a KMDD. Overheating is death, so don't do it unless you're alone and you KNOW that next hit will kill the enemy. Even then, expect to take a bunch of heat damage to your CT structure.

I've had very good luck with this fighting method and build, and I wish you similar luck, Mechwarrior.

The Jenner IIC SRM boat changed the light game for me.

I run mine with an Xl 280, 6x SRM4s, and 500rds.

Absurdly fun and effective little bastid.

Being able to kill anything with no more than 2 well placed shots to the back is amazingly satisfying.

That said, I still suck with all other lights outside of playing a sniper.

I hardly touch my Jenner IICs, I only feel good about driving the Missile one though my stats say I am just as good in the -3. They move too fast for me though slower engines were too slow. Have not done much modifying with them.

4 SRM4 + 2 SRM2 base version.
6 SPL -A is like a Cheetah without the stealth ECM for sneaking about.
I put a NARC with ERMLs on the -2 for now.
-3 with 4 ERSL and 2 SRM4.

It is easier to deal with Tier if you turn it off in game. Not seeing it makes you worry about it less. I used to bounce between 2 Tiers, since turning it off I stay consistent though I am not sure how far up it I am but I don't care since I cannot see it in game.

Better yet to face that Dire Whale 1-on-1, in an 11-11 match, for the win, in your not-yet-BASIC'd ACH with its little red lazorz.

I loved that kill so much...

Or facing that AC/40 KGC in the open water on Crimson Strait with a single cERLL and three cERSLs.
