Just for the record, CBT minis are about 1:285 scale and mw:da minis are n-scale (the model railroad scale).

Looking to get into a tabletop mech game.

Yes and no. The true scale of MW:DA is somewhere between 10-12 mm. N-Scale will work for like 80% of the figures but there are a bunch of mechs/vehicles that are just bizarrely sized. Take the Shawdowcat II from MWDA. That thing is grotesquely proportioned and somewhere around 15 mm.
So N-Scale will work but you need to be aware of the "weird" mechs and plan accordingly. Putting an N-Scale building next to one just looks awkward.

Thank you Datum.
I used to play Warhammer a lot so I am used to the dice rolls for weapons xD

The beauty about battletech is even if you loose a Mech you always get to fire back; since firing is simultaneuos. I played Warhammer 40k and always hated my Landraider being destroyed by a missile laucher and not getting a chance to fire back. " i'll just stand here while you shoot the crap out of me".. BT rules!!!!

The "clicky" aspect is part of a newer version called Mechwarrior: Dark Age. It's generally frowned upon for being kinda cheezy and simplistic as well as doing mean things to the canon when compared to the actual Battletech game.
Must've thought you were talking about that.

I've never really understood the nerd-rage directed at "Clicky-Tech." It's another way for folks to play BattleTech, even if it isn't the ruleset you cut your teeth on. An aspect a lot of folks don't seem to consider is the likelihood of garnering and fostering interest in the CBT ruleset. That's a very likely scenario if you treat the MWDA player with respect, and if you get the sense they are looking for something with a little more meat to it.
MWDA was great to play a few quick games, especially if you don't have a full day to devote to one battle via CBT.

Hello,
I'm waiting for the release of mechwarrior online, like everyone else. I am currently playing a few other games while I wait too and an Alpha tester for another game due to release sometime this year (hopefully).
I am a HUGE fan of the original board game Battle tech. Back in the day, friends of mine and I would sit around for HOURS and plan and play out scenario's over the course of many weekends then after a time created our own 'mechs' and battled it up some more!
Anyway, I got online yesterday and came across an idea. do they have Battletech online? actually they do and I was so shocked I about fell out of my chair and had to check it out.
So with a little more searching I found this download and skeptically proceeded. Installed the game and put a shortcut to my desktop in case it turned out to be worth a damn or not.
I'm SO happy! it is EXACTLY like the board game used to be only with a ton more options and I mean a TON MORE and it is all free for the taking. You can link up with others (who have it) and play out battles to your hearts content. it has a FULL selection of all the battle mechs and aerospace fighters and even vehicles and drop ships to play with.
I've played a few games with it, and it really looks like you are playing on a board, with the old style top down figurines. You can change the maps too to meet the needs of the game play you want.
I check this forum board out simi-frequently and would love to find others who would be interesting in playing this board game style of battle tech from time to time at least until we finally get mechwarrior online and can play a more modern version!
Here is the link to the download I found, just follow the instructions and if anyone wishes to play, send me a note to my profile and i'll get back to you via your profile page. http://megamek.info/
Check ya later, I hope this was something of what you were looking for!

I agree. When I first got involved in the game I was married and had a child. I didn't then, nor do I now, have more than an hour (if I'm lucky) to invest in anything. I once met someone who was bashing the game when I was playing it with my kid and he couldn't say anything good about the game because it wasn't CBT. So, when I asked him to show me how to play the game it took too long to even explain it compared to quick pick up and go of the MWDA game. Sure it isn't CBT, but it's pretty darn close and is based off the same universe just less paperwork. My kid likes the MWDA because it is simpler to play and set up instead of all of the down time with the CBT game.
