Well, they were already that. Now, regardless of what they look like, they at least do something to someone else's mech.

I'm not the greatest fan of those "Flamers" visually. They are less traditional flame thrower, and more blow torch. Still, not the worst I suppose.

Question though, in the video at 1:13 a boulder roles off the cliff (when the Firestarter charges the mech the camera is in). I don't remember lose boulders on Canyon Network. is that something I missed and never paid attention too, or is that new?

It is. It was a bad weapon. Now is their day. Embrace the brawling overlords.

Yes that's new, it's part of the breakable items that have been added to that map this patch.

Cool, thanks for the response. I must have missed that announcement. I watched the overview muted (at work) so if they said it in the video, I missed it.

Considering they ARE heat guns now, maybe that's the point.

It's like someone took a creme brulee torch and turned it up to over 9000.

I'm assuming it's a stock Roflman with 10 SHS and no XP tree stuff unlocked, so I think that normal mechs in normal matches will take a bit longer than that...but it will still probably be rather quick.

Too quick, most likely. Looks like they've about added a stun-lock to the game. Oh, sure - you need something else to finish off the helpless mech, but still, this looks like a very questionable idea.

Also, I look forward to how much these changes will attract new players to the game, since it's not as if they'd be running stock mechs, possibly even with single heat sink. I'm sure being effectively stun-locked in a few seconds by a flamer mech will really make them want to keep playing this game. Posted Image

Nah. Post fix the easy solution is to just shield for a bit or walk/run away- firing mech has to stop or it gets more heat than you after 9-10 seconds. Only doesn't work if you are getting focused and can't flee- then you were in the poo anyway. Also don't get much Cbill/xp reward for flaming a mech as opposed to shooting with a real damaging weapon.

Flamers are Ok defensive weapons or for very mobile brawlers, and in 1:1 fights. But actively using them as a basis for your fighting strategy in a 12v12 makes for very hard games with low reward.
