Easy Way To Nerf Energy Weapons

We don't want Lights and Mediums to boat LLs and PPCs. Right? Got sick of reversed balance crap, like Locusts killing my Assault 'Mech from 1K meters. Ballistics have one con - ammo. But with lasers all you need to do - is equip DHS and viola! You effectively have 10 more heat sinks for free! You may boat weapons, that are intended to be carried by Assaults! So. May be energy weapons should force you to sacrifice something too? So may be we should do the following things:
1) Nerf engine double heat sinks or completely remove them.
2) Buff external double heat sinks.
3) Decrease heat generation for ballistics and missiles to compensate this nerf.

So, guys, who want to play laser vomit, will have to also boat ton of 3-slot 1-ton heat sinks. This will restrict their ability to boat LLs, LPLs, ER-LLs, PPCs and ER-PPCs. If they want to boat more of them - they'll have to sacrifice their heat efficiency.

Maybe it's just me... But I still don't understand what the big deal is with lasers right now. I have laser and ballistic builds and am okay with either honestly. The two primary builds I have been using of each lately are a Crab with three LPL, and a Jager with three U-AC-5's. The U-AC-5 build is very effective when property used... Just like the LPL Crab. I personally would rather use the Crab just because it's a smaller profile and I'm not such a big target. If I could put the 3 AC-5's on the Crab I would definitely do that!

Now the convergence alpha some have talked about with the lasers... That I understand but I'm not completely on board with thinking there needs to be a nerf somewhere.

Imo I think missiles/ballistics/energy builds can all be used effectively. I'm not much for missiles and I barely use them so my effectiveness with them isn't there. But ballistics and energy weapons? If I'm smart out there, don't make completely irrational decisions and put myself in bad situations I can usually have good matches with either in their current state.

.......let's not waste our time nerfing a weight class that doesn't really need it. Not to mention the fact very few lights are actually good with LL and PPCs.

Seriously. PPC's? Who even uses PPC's now?

Anyways, no light is "boating" weapons intended to be carried by assaults. 2 Large Lasers isn't boating anything. Most Lights *can* carry 2 PPC's, but it's a pretty bad build.

To the OP: Its been said before and it will get said again. The quickest way to balance energy weapons in to use the table top standard of movement penalty to heat. Heat is supposed to be the crux of energy weapons. Yet it is also the one thing that PGI does not want to have happen. Therefor PGI wants laser boats. They cannot see past there corporate stupidity. They will do the infinite weapon/hardpoint/quirk nerfing circle until the game is unplayable. Once all weapon systems are nerfed they will be back to square one of laser boats.

Sony perfected this tactic in Everquest. They would say it cant be done, crash the servers, or imbalance the game. 2 years later they would make the change. It would be followed up with them stroking themselves at the sheer awesomeness of what they did. Only after 2 years of the community telling them they are wrong.

And the MWO community has been telling PGI this for how many years now? 2? 3? More?!

Unless we absolutely just spam this one topic and literally nothing else, for months on end, it's not going to change anytime soon.

OP, you dont understand the game at its core level and its really starting to show....



This does nothing to stop Laser Vomit, its only hurts mechs that already dont have the Engine cap/Size and lack TruDubs. Be it Missle mechs, lasers mechs or even ballistics mechs. Nerfing the heatsinks in your engine will hurt ALL mechs, not just laser vomit ones.

Blanket nerfs are bad, thread is bad, you should feel bad.
