Im confused about

"If you don't own a Rifleman 'Mech that qualifies for the Leaderboard event you'll still have plenty of opportunity to earn some rewards in the cumulative Personal Challenge component, or you can pick up a Rifleman Collection if you want to throw down the gauntlet against other Rifleman pilots."

So the personal challenge part is for any mechs in quick play mode? rest of the announcement makes it seem like you need rifleman.

The Leaderboard is for Rifleman only.

Personal Challenge is counted without any limitations to mechs. So yes, it's for everyone.

No, you don't need the Rifleman for the Personal Challenges. ;)

The "top ten games" aspect actually HELPS new players because it would be better to take your 10 best games, some of which could be uncharacteristically good, than average in all your derp games too. Pros may have a better set of 10 games but they'd also be less likely to have really bad ones so if it was averaging all games they'd have a double whammy advantage.

I tend disagree on the newb/pro stuff. From what has happened in the past, some people who were apparently not new to the game saw to it that they had a lot of help in the ten games that count.

Thanks PGI !!

Going to enjoy this event even though I don't have a Rifleman, I do enjoy taking them apart by hitting that antenna.

On a side note, I just got to T1 using an Urban mech. Damn they are OP.

Pretty generous on the private challenge part. Thanks a lot, very appreciated and nicely archievable simply by playing. Thumbs up! :-)

No Riflemen here. But it'll be nice for a change to be shooting up non-elited or mastered mechs, instead of the other way around.

And I'll play to keep my collection of green check-marks in my Stats/Challenges page topped up.
I missed the fist four challenges, as I hadn't started playing the game yet. But after that I've got almost all of them.Posted Image

Wow, these events just keep coming Posted Image and I like it. Thanx PGI for the free stuff.

Oh, and by the way on the home page - the Rifleman is still available for preorder, like it wasn't released yesterday. Just wanted you to know... Posted Image

With the low engine cap my loadouts are either under- or overgunned, not one of them made me happy yet ..

RFL-3C

RFL-3N

These are the ones I tested out last night, both seem solid. Frontload armor to taste. The STD280 leftover from a Warhammer makes it seem pretty responsive. Haven't decided which way to build the energy variant yet. Legend Killer I think I'll try with XL280 (salvaged from Black Widow) and and 4 medium lasers to back up the LBX 10s. Hopefully the XL doesn't hurt survivability too much.

We'll have to hope that PGI adds one more day on the other end for people who are in 'Tier 5', or have scheduling issues. ;)

Another leader-board event for the Riflemen masses. Excellent!

Events for just released mechs increase pre-order motivation. PGI really seems to need the up-front money to keep their funding.

You're running an event which has a separate section only for the people who bought Rifleman Mech Packs ?

OMG outrage so pay2win!

I am still trying to figure out why you think that it would take so much longer for Tier 5 players to get the necessary games in compared to other Tiers. Depending on the Mech you should easily be able to achieve all of them in 10-30 games quite independent of your Tier.

Care to help me understand?

While I'm in 'Tier 4', a second MechWarrior who uses the same computer as myself happens to be down in 'Tier 5'. This person has had far worse trouble playing the game than I have, and has only rarely (like once, maybe twice) completed an event in the few months since we both started playing. They usually struggle to have enough time and good rounds played, even though they take most of the time on the computer. I have done all I can to tutor them along, but to not much avail. They have become my proverbial "measuring stick" on needed time for the highest reasonable percentage of players to complete an event. :(

That basically sums up 95% of why I keep chiding PGI over how little time they give for events. The other 5% is myself and a third MechWarrior who get squeezed for time in the process, because of PGI making the time limits too short even for us to be able to finish, due to that second one taking up so much time. (As you can imagine, I just really don't like talking about this issue in that much detail.)

(BTW, if you're going to reply back, note this... Causing that second MechWarrior to give up on the game is NOT a solution, and I won't be tolerating that kind of mentality. ...)

Quite frankly, you are not describing a "general Tier 5" problem then but your usual personal scheduling problem. I have a hard time seeing that as something that affects the majority or even a sizable minority of players on a regular basis.

30 games take about 7-8 hours to complete and it takes really, really ineffective play to not manage the event in those games unless in addition to getting bad results you also play Lights exclusively. I think for nearly everyone outside your very specific scheduling issue it is a very reasonable time investment over four days that include the weekend. And this is the worst case scenario in time required.

At reasonable stats in a heavy or assault (W/L around 1, average scores around 150, average damage over 300, 1-2 KMDD and 3-4 Assists per game) I am guessing it will be done in 10-15 games. So maybe 2 or 3 hours.

And the point of these events is to incentivize people to play over the specified timeslots rather than the rest of the week. Trying to concentrate the player base to part of the week makes matches and waiting times during that time better. It is a rather clever way of making sure that even a small community has a good experience most of the time.
Extending the event dilutes that effect and the small player base spreads more evenly over the week.

None of the rewards are more than "nice extras" or some vanity items. I am just assuming that you all enjoy playing the game for the sake of playing the game, rather than for the joy of grinding out extra rewards.
And that joy is still there even outside the events and their rewards.
