Just turn off throttle decay, you don't need it and will adjust quickly. Just keep one key bound to 0% throttle and another bound to 100% throttle.

I use W and S with Decay and keep Z,X,C for set speeds.

I know Fire Control AutoHotKey has a toggle on off button so you could toggle your W key to stay on until pushed again. This feature is used for TAG a lot. It is worth giving a try just to see how folks use macros even if you do not.

I use a sort of half-and-half throttle.

Turn Throttle Decay On, but rebind the "W" key to be 100% throttle.

Now you tap "W" and you go forward, and can let go if you want. To stop you just tap the "S" key, momentarily trying to go in reverse, but with deceleration means you never do. Instead you just stop. To reverse you hold down the "S" key.

I would use it, I play with throttle decay always on but in some rare occasions it would be nice to turn throttle decay off for a little bit.

While we're asking, I'd like a button for "full reverse". I use "full forward" and "stop" all the time.

I know there's a "toggle" button, but I find it a bit cumbersome to use in the heat of battle.

Change your hotkeys that are set to "Throttle Up" and "Throttle Down", assigning the keys to "Step Throttle Up" and "Step Throttle Down" instead.

You no longer have any need for throttle decay to maximize your acceleration.

0-9 on the numpad will lock your throttle to the respective values. 0 = 100%, 90 = 90% 80 = 80% and so on.

Wouldn't recommend that, the numpad is too far away from WASD keys.

What I do is I have the default 0% as X key, then i mapped the 1-4 keys above WASD to 30%-50%-80%-100%. That way I get the range I need within reach of WASD.

I would. I've never needed wasd in the first second of every match and never had an issue taking my hand off wasd for 1sec when ever else I have to go hunting for AFKs or playing hiking simulator.

And to go along with this, I saw a suggestion once to put "Step Throttle Up" on Mouse Wheel Up and "Step Throttle Down" on Mouse Wheel Down, and have been loving that ever since. I still keep Throttle Decay off and regular assignments to W and S, and X is full stop, but the Mouse Wheel throttle is a great add for me.
