at the hands of whatever electronic diety didn't like me at the time... and now I'm sitting threw a 2 minute penalty for "leaving an active match"... gee... why do I suffer this when I was already DEAD and lots of others disconnect from games after dying without penalty it seems. Especially on a day when lots of folks are reporting being disconnected from games... PGI... think you need a hot fix or to do some server maintenance...

Meanwhile my movie download wasn't interrupted at all so whatever happened was NOT my internet connection failing.

it's not PGI. The servers are fine.

But you understand there are many - probably over a dozen - servers between PGI and you, right? Your ISP just being the last couple. If ANY of those has a hiccup, bam, you can find yourself disconnected through no fault of your own or PGI's.

No fault of your own, but you will sure be penalized for it though.

Hardly a crushing penalty. Even to get 2 minutes, that wasn't his first disconnect that session.

But the penalty is there to stop disconnect farming. Having a small (it starts out at, what, 30 seconds?) delay before you can drop again after your first disconnect is hardly onerous.

I didn't say it was an individual user problem.

In fact, I think I very clearly said it WASN'T your fault. Please read, rather than just assuming people are blaming you.

If a major interconnect has an issue, this can result in whole regions (even whole countries) suffering connection issues.

Some time ago, Time Warner had an issue, and everyone connecting through them (not just TWC users, but anyone who's network route from their house to PGI's servers crossed Time Warner servers) would disconnect constantly. Good times.
