The other day, at the start of a match, I was behind a team mate, going a few kilometres faster. The other two lances were converging - it was obvious it was the start of a nascar. My lance moved to converge, but the guy in front was slowing us down. I went to overtake but wasn't fast enough to pull it off before we had to pass through a choke point. And that was when it hit me. This game needs drafting!
Yes. Drafting, to slingshot around a slower mech. Shake and bake.
I hit the numpad key to keep my mech moving and typed my idea out in all chat. Someone on the otherside said this isn't Nasmechwarrior Online. I replied 'Yes it is.' with a friendly smile. Well, the guy on the side was obviously a top bloke, because he thought about it and replied that some maps were basically nascar, God bless his soul. And that was when I realised I was on somethi... er, rather, ONTO something!
Drafting. I thought about it some more. Not only could one overtake, if the faster mech is only slightly faster, it could help the slower mech move at a greater speed so they could nascar faster - this would speed up the early/boring parts of a match and WOULD BE INVALUABLE FOR THE DIREWOLF!! No more will the Direwolf be left behind, it could draft behind a Stalker. Also, because it would be going faster and succumbing less to air resistance, it could torso twist faster whilst drafting because the engine wouldn't be under
full load.

So this drafting idea got me thinking, and before I knew it, I had another idea. What this game really needs is Power Sliding! Does anyone else get annoyed when you land after jjing you slow down a bit and have to pick up speed again? So I thought lights and mediums could power slide if they hit the ground hard enough.
Imagine this - you're in your loyalty Cicada. It's down to you and a fresh Direwolf, and you've already rolled over 9000 damage across all your components. But you've got this - you're top speed is ~130kph, and Direwolf pilots can't aim. He's sitting in the middle of an open area trying to shoot you as you sprint kind of towards him. You hit the jump jets and soar upwards, and over the Direwolves dakka. You judge you're at the right height and angle... You cut the jets and start plummeting towards the ground, bracing for impact. The 'cadas legs take the brunt of the impact and are angled to lessen the coeffiecent of friction. For a moment if feels like a rug is yanked out from under the 'cada and then your surfing across the earth's surface. You're going faster than the engines top speed, a lot faster, you cooly whiz past right in front of the Direwolf that is now backing up in a panic and trying to turn, it's firing bullets up, down, left, right and it drops an arty almost on top of itself. You over-steer, under-steer to start sliding around the "turning" Direwolf, your living a tenth of a second at a time as you swing around its back and target your lasers at its rear CT. You squeeze the trigger - PEWPEWPEWPEW!
There's no armour on the Dire's rear. You tsk tsk and shake your head as you take a swig from your hip flask with one hand and swing the wheel the other way to do a figure eight with the other hand. The Dire pilot makes yet another mistake thinking to counter turn against the 'cada, but the 'cada pilot has turned right around and straightened up, the targeting reticle lined up on the Dire's bruised backside - PEWPEWPEWPEW!
The Direwolf's engine assplodes. Power sliding 'cada wins.
Dare you to tell me you don't want to experince something as thrilling as that.
Let's do dis, PGI, let's do dis!
