I have 13 million C-Bills saved up specifically for a Mad Dog... The only reason i have not pulled the trigger yet is because some dipshit put FFA on it instead of ES.
Apparently Mech design engineers do not have access to a Mechlab.

LRM50 is best you can do and carry a load-out that will work for a full match.
But LRMs do not work even an nth as well as lasers so a Clan LRM mech with no lasers at all is about useless unless surrounded by laser mechs to guard it, but PUG players don't even know to guard their Assault Lance and often call you scumbag for bringing LRMs. I bring them anyway and watch for them on the opposing team next match as my primary target. I also guard my team and assaults because that's how you win.

I have lrm 60 + 4 ER small madcat, works ok.

MDD-PRIME - 6x5
MDD-PRIME 6x10
Far less ammo, worse heat, slower locks, etc.
MDD-PRIME 4x15
Better than 6x10, with 1 more ton of ammo and better heat, but still, overall worse than the 6x5.
MDD-PRIME 6x15
An amazing 3T ammo, without massively sacrificing armour, and maybe the CLAP which would get you 1-2T more. Have to lose 2 backup weapons, and I only use ERSML's anyway.
MDD-PRIME - 6x5
MDD-PRIME 6x10

I've had great games with 4xERML and 6xSRM6. It can brawl. Had some decent games with 3xMPL and UAC20 as well.
The armor on the Mad Dog is not significantly lower than the Hellbringer's, nor significantly higher than the Stormcrow's.
The hitboxes are a bit of a downside, but they don't stop the mech from being a terrifying specialist.

No...ATD only works if they DON'T have radar derp. Derp instantly breaks lock overriding ATD. Unless something has changed in the last 4 months?
