This is how matchmaking currently works:
1.) You choose a server or servers.
2.) You choose a Mech.
3.) You click quick play.
4.) MatchMaker then finds EVERY player within 2 Tiers of your tier on those servers.
5.) MatchMaker assembles a pair of teams.
6.) Players then vote and drop.
This is what would happen if we remove voting:
1.) You choose a server or servers, and you choose a game mode.
2.) You choose a Mech.
3.) You click quick play.
4.) MatchMaker then finds only players within 2 Tiers of your tier on those servers who also chose the same game mode.
5.) MatchMaker assembles a pair of teams
6.) Players then drop.
You think that it's not a big difference, right? Look at step 4. That step determines wait times, because that is the step that collects players so the MM can assemble the teams - step 4 is the matchmaking choke-point in both scenarios.
Once you separate the playerbase in step 4 into subqueues, you then make everybody's wait times longer. Players who want to play Conquest only will be waiting for several minutes before dropping. People who want to drop without Conquest cannot share a matchmaking instance with anyone who does, so it lengthens their wait times, too.
Everybody's wait times increases. Even if you check all 3 mode boxes, you STILL have a longer wait time due to the MM having to exclude people from your search once you are incorporated into a match that's being assembled.
You folks who want mode voting removed want to increase wait times for every single player. And, honestly, I don't want you to lengthen my wait times. Wait times kill my gaming experience. I want to spend time playing, not waiting.
I am in Tier 3 right now, the Tier with the shortest wait times. I cannot imagine how bad t would be for Tier 1 players if voting was removed. They would basically be waiting for minutes every single match.
