I feel the need to point this out to everyone.

This is how matchmaking currently works:
1.) You choose a server or servers.
2.) You choose a Mech.
3.) You click quick play.
4.) MatchMaker then finds EVERY player within 2 Tiers of your tier on those servers.
5.) MatchMaker assembles a pair of teams.
6.) Players then vote and drop.

This is what would happen if we remove voting:

1.) You choose a server or servers, and you choose a game mode.
2.) You choose a Mech.
3.) You click quick play.
4.) MatchMaker then finds only players within 2 Tiers of your tier on those servers who also chose the same game mode.
5.) MatchMaker assembles a pair of teams
6.) Players then drop.

You think that it's not a big difference, right? Look at step 4. That step determines wait times, because that is the step that collects players so the MM can assemble the teams - step 4 is the matchmaking choke-point in both scenarios.

Once you separate the playerbase in step 4 into subqueues, you then make everybody's wait times longer. Players who want to play Conquest only will be waiting for several minutes before dropping. People who want to drop without Conquest cannot share a matchmaking instance with anyone who does, so it lengthens their wait times, too.

Everybody's wait times increases. Even if you check all 3 mode boxes, you STILL have a longer wait time due to the MM having to exclude people from your search once you are incorporated into a match that's being assembled.

You folks who want mode voting removed want to increase wait times for every single player. And, honestly, I don't want you to lengthen my wait times. Wait times kill my gaming experience. I want to spend time playing, not waiting.

I am in Tier 3 right now, the Tier with the shortest wait times. I cannot imagine how bad t would be for Tier 1 players if voting was removed. They would basically be waiting for minutes every single match.

You know when we could choose our mode, I Unchecked all servers but US, and unchecked assault and skirmish and would only play conquest all night..

guess what, I never had to wait long, 1-2 mins tops..

And my, my what a surprise i got much better games, because people playing conquest wanted to play it. you would run into many of the same people all night, and had a blast doing because we all wanted to be playing that mode..

there was no suicide because conquest was chosen, there was no bitching about game mode, though map sometimes, but most of the maps people complain about are great conquest maps.

And even if it did add a min to the wait.. which is hardly a big deal,, it more than made it worth it, because people tended to have much more fun playing what they wanted.. and not playing Frozen city skirmish for the 20th time in a single night.

Vote map.. Choose game mode..

lastly, if my wait times on one server just playing conquest, being the slowest, people picking skirmish and assault on 2 servers would be a way faster wait.. Everyone wins..

As I understand it, they are thinking/planning on removing the voting multiplier, not voting itself.

Random selection is faster.

They are not removing voting they are just hiding what you are voting for, so people can stop gaming the system.

That would be enough, but I hear they're locking votes in too which is unneeded since you can't see what others are voting for and swap at the last minute. If they also remove the multiplier ... well I guess it's going to be Frozen City online again for a while

Voting is still annoying and sucks dongs, and with the (relatively) recent jump in active players from launching on Steam it shouldn't even be needed because the reason the old system was taken out was due to low player population, but now we do have more players.

PGI could have allowed hard mode selection to stay if they had just made a compromise to the old system by adding a 3rd "not preferred" option to mode selection so that players could have an option in between "preferred" and "will not play," but no they just jump the gun and make the most annoying system possible instead.

Well at the moment the only one even hinting at changing the vote mechanic is the OP. So I suppose cool your jets before you draw attention to it unless that is your goal. In which case carry on.

I've never had a huge hang up on voting. It's waiting for people to ready up that grinds my gears. If he match is full ot should start. If you were noy ready when you queued then you won't be ready now and you're probably an AFK leech. Often times I'm waitig a whole minute for these guys to get ready. It's a pug. You aren't planning a battle you're berating the guy who just announced he's a LRM boat for asking you to lock targets and you won't even touch R once the whole game! Just please ready the doodly-doo up!

Not a soul in Creation would've used 'not preferred' and you know it.

Voting works just fine. I have never seen someone suicide over not getting the map/mode combo they wanted. The game continues onward as it always does. Yeebus, people. Just let it go.

No actually I don't know that, people who would previously check a game mode off would choose "not preferred" because they simply wanted to vote it down but had no choice between "preferred" and "will not play." Not everybody who checked game modes off with the previous system did so because they absolutely refused to play that mode...not even close.

That's not the point at which it becomes a problem.
