That is what thermal vision used to be...now thermal is basically UV instead of IR.

Wat?

Dude, you can't see UV or IR. Both the colored and grayscale modes are just different ways of converting IR frequencies to the visual spectrum.

The higher up you begin to play, the less most of this matters.

Don't get me wrong, it is still useful, but not near as useful as predator vision was.

I would rather say it is the exact way around.
A high level player will have learned how to spot mech silhouettes from the terrain, not requiring any visual help and also be able to precisely hit it. Also the reason why you see so little 4x zoom in tier 1.

On the other way around a low level guy will get very little advantage from a good long look at your paperdoll, he most likely will not have the knowledge of how to take advantage off the defficiencies in your build (very hot, short range etc) and in many cases not even be able to focus cored components. But should you be seen with an entirely cored out st on an xl friendly mech in a tier 1 game you can be certain to not have a pleasent round remaining, every hostile will be itching to shoot that side off the next time chasis x pops up behind some hill.

The higher you get the more important information warfare becomes.

Most maps require use of thermal because either the mech blends in with terrain more than I would like (Tourmaline when mechs are on stage) or the map has this atrocious fog (multiple maps) that makes spotting silhouettes require much squinting and thermal reduces the amount of squinting you have to do.

Good players don't really need paperdoll readouts because there are generally default to-hit sections that are almost always good to shoot, the only case that isn't the case is cored mechs, and someone has that information at some point generally.

actually the black and white thermal IS a better quality ir, not just in this game but in the way of real ir scopes
with the technocolor ir it's hard to tell what equipment the target is carrying, what weapon system he has, in black and white ir it's very easy to tell

True, some IR is setup that way...but UV is also black/white exclusively as well.

You can use apparatus to convert UV and/or IR to visual spectrum
