I toiled for many moons testing, tweaking builds, trying out the much forgotten flamer. I slaved over my lights until I found a niche, a reason, a function for them.

Even then they were not superior weapons, merely support weaponry. Lock downs that sacrifice damage capacity for utility. Of little use for the cbill grinding or greedy amongst us, but nice enough for the team..

And now, now that I have found a use for the oft bemoaned flamer it gets nerfed. Alas, poor Flamers, I knew them, Mechwarriors.

A tribute, to the nerfed. They shall be missed. <o.

They fixed an exploit whereby a person could keep their opponent at max heat while generating next to no heat themselves.

Seams like a nerf to me. I never used any Marco to get around the heat. 5 seconds is about the time most brawls are lasting. So you basically get to use your flamers once in a fight. 0.5 seconds would have stopped most the issue.

Apparently they also broke it.

Old was expo decay=firing time

Intended solution was decay=4.75s

Currently, supposedly, expo decay=firing time + 4.75s

They still work a lot better. The graphics change where they look like a plasma torch was awesome before that it was kind of difficult to tell for me if they were even hitting when I was moving. I actually see people use them once in a while now though.

If I have one spare energy slot and 1 ton.....I'll put in a tag laser. Posted Image

The flamer-apocalypse died with a whimper. I've barely seen anyone use it since patch. It's suicide to flame someone if they have a buddy nearby and if you catch a DWF alone, you'd wish for an extra SPL.

Maybe in a Solaris 2v2 or 4v4 setting flamer can get some mileage.

There is a new bug that introduces absurd amounts of heat for both the flamer and the flamee. Expect absolutely no mention of it by the people that so vehemently pointed out the "macro" glitch. I doubt they will be touched again. Another attempt at bringing a subpar weapon up destroyed by the laser pointer meta crowd.
