Hey people,

I wanted to do this in WoT (Collect all tanks) but even before the French line was open, it would cost ~€300

I sure hope this isn't going to be the case for MWO

Anyone else planning to "catch them all"???

Not sure what the cost will be but not really planning on it - just getting the ones I like and go from there.

No, not planning on it. In particular I don't plan on having many if any assault mechs.

Since I really love the mechlab and the building your own mech aspect of the game, I will probably be getting several mechs, but as far as getting them all, it will really come down to how the lab works, how the garage slots work, and other similar questions.

heres the biggest problem with collecting over the next 12 months most likely be in the region of 15 to 20 battlemechs more or less, but the problem with it is to much choice, what I mean is if you keep a small group of Mechs 4 or 5 you then just have to give each a role and build them certain ways then you ready for anything, while having a mass number wont be very helpful when in the dropship on the count down timer for the next match when half of those mechs barely have enough fire power to scratch anything, so what I,m say here is choice is a good thing but can be a bad thing as well if you get where I am coming from that is B)

For me it will depend on the costs involved, I would like to have some mechs pre-built to suit most requirements.

If however it ends up costing to much i'll just stick with my favorite mechs and load-outs.

Well, my excitement over MWO lead me to the legendary founders pack so I figure I'll start with room for 8 with 4 taken. There's a good chance I'll use the in game currency from the founders package to buy at least a couple more mechs right off the bat if they're ready. I'll be getting a Raven for sure and a Cataphract and Jagermech are a possibility as is the Stalker. Waiting to see how much additional mech bays are too.

What would be pretty nifty would be if they added some sort of "mothballing" feature so those people who wanted to collect every mech could do so without too much penalty. This would basically let you maintain additional mechs at a cost charged per game, but have it take something like 24 hours for them to be available to play to represent the time it would take your techs to check everything over and make sure it all works. That way people could buy up mechs to use in combat, but also have their own personal battlemech museum if they wanted.

This.

Without any indication what it will cost etc. it is difficult to give an answer. I would even consider having the same mech with different loadouts if it's possible and affordable. B)

It certaiinly would be cool, I love a good stable in any game. But a few thing to have in mind, for each chassis there are generally (at least so far for the announced chassis) 3-4 variants. So right now to truly "collect them all" with 13 chassis's announced... you are looking somewhere between 39 and 52 different possible playable mechs. Unless you were just planning on chassis collection. As a showcase it would be cool, as some of the other members have mentioned, you will probably end up with just a couple of different ones you end up using on a regular basis. When playin previous mech titles, I personally had a bit of an adjustement time switching chassis, altering play style and tactical approach to suit the chassis. I am guessing MWO will be similar, for me at least. Needing a little bit of adjustment and learning curve switching chassis's and or roles. Which the idea of chassis XP, and what the Dev's have layed out plays into and fits that really well. But thats just me, others may not have that same adjustment switching between chassis's / Roles.

To the OP's point it would be cool, as I said love a good stable. Just throwing in some other ramblings.

Ah yes I hadn't thought of all of the variants of each chassis! Another thing I realised as a result of this is that every time they add a new mech, you'd essentially have to buy 3-4 to get all the variants, and you'd need to play the game a fair chunk to get all of those before the next mech comes out, so sooner or later you're going to get left behind. Won't stop me from trying though!

I am a colector type so I would love to "have them all" and max out one after another, but I suppose with the 50+ variants it will be close to impossible not to mention that the price would kill me. (I am a savy type)

Personally I was thinking of getting all the basic models (or a single variant of each).

That "cooldown" idea is quite nice I think (24h cooldown before a "stored" mech becomes availlable again)

You can never have too many 'Mechs! That being said, I won't be trying to collect them all, as some of them are pretty bad. The artwork is great, and I'm happy that they're in the game. But I can't see myself piloting a Trebuchet, Commando, Dragon or JagerMech - unless I can SERIOUSLY customise them.

Charging for extra Mech Bays is a very fair way for the company to make money. I hope they do charge for them and I hope people are clear headed enough to accept a cost of at least $5(at least, I'd expect up to $10... Clan Time, buys 10 mech bays) for extra mech bays. They have already said no to pay-to-win weapons/mechs, mech bays is a great money maker for the company.

I have no issue with charging for mech bays but $5-10 seems very excessive.

It will depend on how good the game is.

If the game is as amazing as I am already thinking it is I will get every mech (eventually anyways). I may not get every variant. It depends how much time it takes to get all them. There will be a few that I will collect some variants.

There are some mechs that I think just suck but I would still want them. The only way I would not buy every mech is if they do things like Mech Warrior 4. There were some mechs that weighed the same but had more room for weapons and higher speed. It basically made any other mech in its class that was similar, useless. I hope this does not happen.

I hate it when they have “garbage” units in games. But I have FAITH! I believe that the devs will do this right. They have only more then made my expectations for a new MW game, so I will continue to believe in them until they **** up :-D
