"Hello, my name is Marauder3D, and I'm a whale."

"Hello Marauder3D!"

Ok, with our Mechaholics Anonymous meeting off to a roaring start, I wanted to bring up a recent experience for me.

I bought the Legend-Killer Hero Rifleman, and I'm having some serious buyer's remorse.

This is significant because I can enjoy something about almost every mech. Hell, I leveled the Myst Lynx when it came out and enjoyed it. That's saying something (probably about my mental health, but that is another post).

Anyway, I'm enjoying the Rifleman. It reminds me of playing BattleTech, and I love seeing them on the screen with Warhammers and Marauders moving around in lance formation. I have workable builds that I have fun in the 3N, 5D, and 3C. None of the Rifleman seem OP, and most are pretty squishy.

But oh man, the Legend Killer is Killing it alright. Thing is, its killing me, and my K/D ratio. I realized back when I bought it that it doesn't bring almost anything different to the table that the 3N has. And the paintjob is somewhere between curious and hideous. What I didn't know when I bought it was what the quirks might be. LB-X quirks is what we got. Ouch.

Anyway, I'm wishing that I didn't buy the damn thing.

So here are my questions.

1. Anyone else having buyer's remorse on this Hero mech?
2. Anyone have a good Legend Killer build?
3. Anyone loving this thing?

Cheers all!

It's basically unquirked to all intents and purposes. I had a sad moment when I realised, but then just took it on the chin because I never expected the mech to be god tier anyway.

Someone is sure to post that they used the LBX and they don't understand the fuss because it's great and they kill everything, but that person will be wrong and bad.

The Rifleman isn't a bad mech it's just whelming compared to its predecessors, the Marauder and the Warhammer.

New flash. Clan pilot cant pilot an Inner Sphere mech. An original, a chassis that made Battletech.
Would the Rifleman be better with an XL engine that doesn't blow on a side torso loss maybe?

We can't expect a filthy Smoke Jaguar to pilot a glorious Inner Sphere chassis with any sort of competence! Posted Image

dude, MWO has been very cool about refunds.
I purchased mech packs before and regretted it and they gave me a refund.
Ask and thou shall receive.

My issue with it are two fold:

1) there paint scheme is indeed hideous.

2) the LB-X quirks. Not that it has them. If that's it's loadout, then that is where the quirks SHOULD be.

No. The issue is that there are exactly 2 mechs useful with LB-X. The CN9-D and the ON1-M.

And both are "good" solely due to 50%ish RoF Quirks.

Without at least a 40% on the LK, they might as well not even exist.

It's actually one of my favorite variants.

XL 280
2x LBX-10
4x M-Laser
5 tons of ammo (100 bullets)

Games: 28
W/L: 20/8 (2.50)
K/D: 38/15 (2.53)

Oh, and I do love the paintjob.

I actually love the Legend Killer. I've been running 2xLBX 10 and 4xML with a 280XL engine and 90 shots of ammo. It is a very effective mech for me and I've had some excellent games with it (plus it's a lot of fun). It pops easily if focus fired but the key is to move with other (bigger) targets and just wail on mechs already occupied. If you get isolated or outnumbered it is a quick (and lonely) death. That being said I've only had a few bad games in it and I've played it a lot since release. It's not a tank, it's a mobile gun platform. Let other mechs take the hits and shred away!

I enjoy the LK. The 5D has been terrible to me.

I fit quad AC2 and use it as a long range jackhammer.

The only mech pack purchase I've regretted is the Warhammer. It's bloody terrible.

I have buyers remorse often until I made a conscious decision that some mechs will never have a good KD. I'd run the LK as I want to run it and enjoy the camo.

Example: If a Kell Hounds mech(Wolfhound) or a hero Thor came out, I'd probably buy them.

to the OP, that would be frustrating.
To the guy who said the Warhammer is bloody terrible... wow do we disagree. It has been my favorite in a long while.
I guess it just goes to show that play styles are varied, and deeply personal.
(Dude the Warhammer is fantastic!)

I haven't been happy with most hero mechs I have bought. I end up using the stock cbill boosted mechs more than the hero's.

Search google for "mwo doa" some interesting results: Marauder, King Crab, Quickdraw, etc. Lots of mechs and especially Hero's have started out being universally panned. Lots of mechs (though admittedly not as many Hero's) have been transformed into something, playable to even OP down the road.

If I were you, I'd park the mech for awhile and see what becomes of it before asking for a refund.

I love my Pretty Baby, Heavy Metal, and Boar's Head though they are definitely terrible.

I bought The Boar's Head at full price, the day it came out, back when clans weren't introduced and there wasn't anything better at 100tons. Has one less missile and one less ballistic than the AS7-D but gains 2 more E points in the arms while having none in the center. It's a hot mess but I wanted 3 Atlas to get to mastery and I sold my unfinished K and got the Boar's Head. Keep in mind this was back when founders mechs only gave you 20% cbill boost.

Now that I have the DWF and KGC specials from the Assault steam pack I don't need The Boar's Head. Both can carry way more firepower than an Atlas and carry the same 30% cbill bonus.

If I could refund anything I'd refund my AS7-BH and just buy more mechbays. If I want to run an Atlas I just run my founders D or special S variant so the Boar's Head is even more useless to me.

3xLPL 1Med

3xAC5

4xAC2 4 Med

3xUAC5 2 Med

Dual Gauss

Dual Gauss with full armor

Dual AC20

Essentially anything a Jagermech can do this mech can do to a slightly lesser degree

If I had to less armor than a Jagermech I'd play as supporting and assisting assaults and other heavies. Do what you can to not be the center of any attention. You're a medium mech in the heavy slot, as light as a heavy can get so you have to play cautious.

XL engines are the only way I can pack on the firepower I like, I'd use a standard whenever possible but you'll be always be lacking in speed and firepower.

I'm sorely missing the "LBX is good" meme.

Oh well.

See? That is one of the things I love about this game and all the variety in chassis and variants. What works for one person may not ever "click" with another. That's why I often wonder why all these threads about 'this mech is better than this mech' or 'that mech is total trash'... Pilot Skill + Play Style + Mech = Personal Mech Quality Opinion. For me, while I'm pretty decent, at least for my tier, in all my MADs, my Bounty Hunter is by far my best and likely my best mech overall (sorry Oxide, I've been neglecting you lately). 450 - 700 dmg and kills pretty run of the mill (man I don't want to trip into T3.... *sigh*)
