I like the aesthetics of the Bushwacker. The Bushwacker was in MW4 but I don't remember it actually being popular in multiplayer. I can't speak for its popularity in MW3 since I only ever played singleplayer in MW3. I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I'm about as excited for it as I am any other new mech. New mechs are cool, even if they end up sucking in practice. If the Bushwhacker is the next mech, then that's cool. But if it's something else too, I still won't be upset. I'd really like them to get the Flea and the Firemoth (Dasher) figured out. They promised the Flea and never delivered. Whether or not there was a good reason for not delivering it is not the point, they promised it. Figure it out and give it to us. The Firemoth is just something I would like to see, since I've always had a thing for strange looking mechs and the Firemoth's arms are most certainly strange.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Bushwacker in game, but will have to see what slots(and locations) are available before I buy it. I enjoyed it in MW3, but I am pretty certain I placed 3 medium lasers in the left arm instead of a missile launcher since hard points were not locked down. And IIRC from Sarna, the variants we would be seeing that have 1-2 energy slots, are in the CT. But who knows what it will look like if PGI adds a little slot inflation.

On another note, would probably buy in on the Assassin to fill in my need for a fast jump capable medium. Especially if the model comes out close to some of the art I have seen posted in the forums.

Haha if this were about the Assassin you'd be all over it.
(BTW we need the Assassin.)

With the Assassin announcement, I would drink a lot, indeed!!!

I also don't think it will be any good in this game, but i liked it so i might buy it.

With likely Stalker type hit boxes, it might actually be very tanky with a standard engine, and it wouldn't be much bigger than a Crab..

Phoenix Hawk, that is the Medium we need... relatively fast, jump capable medium with a verity of hard points... even has an ECM variant, for those that feel they need ECM.

My recollection (from MW3...I honestly don't remember it even being a part of MW4) was that the Bushwacker was the mech you played on the first few levels and then once you got something else (anything else) you never played it again.

As I recall, in MW3 I didn't figure this out until Op2 Mission 3.

Adam Steiner's Battletech Cartoon checklist:
  • Wolfhound: Check
  • Centurion: Check
  • Hunchback IIC: Check
  • Mad Dog: Check
  • Timber Wolf: Check
  • Awesome: Check
  • Mauler: Check
  • Axman: Nope.
  • Bushwacker: Nope.
  • Hatamoto-Chi: Nope.
We're 3 mechs away from having all the mechs in the Battletech series.

I am sure I won't say no to the Phoenix Hawk, if the art and scale come out right. I have wondered how PGI's take will be on it for looks. Kind of hoping that's the next mech coming out for pre-order. That 2nd artwork looks nice, like it belongs in MWO. Sold!

That's true of EVERY past MechWarrior/Mechcommander title. Play heavier and heavier mechs until you are at the end of the game with an assault. As a Medium, the Bushwacker was always going to be eclipsed by a heavier mech. Same with all other medium mechs a long with lights and heavies. So, the reason it was only played a bit wasn't that the Bushwacker was bad, it was that the Bushwacker wasn't an assault mech.

MechWarrior Online is probably the first title you can actually play something other than an Assault regularly and effectively. That is one nice thing about the game.

I get where you are going with this, but when I played the old games, after the first run through I always tried playing them again on the hardest setting and taking the lightest mech possible. Even then I never chose the Bushwacker (Getting through all of the missions in a Shadowcat in Ghost Bears legacy was point of pride).

But I do see what you mean. Not diss-ing the Bushwacker (like I said I'd buy it). Just pointing out that like many mechs (I'm looking at all the unseens here) there are already mechs in game that do their jobs, load outs, etc. better (In this case, probably the Enforcer). To each his/her own.

Honestly, I'm as guilty as any for asking for new mechs, but we need to change the rules to if the mech being asked for is the Bushwacker, do a double.

We do need more medium mechs in the game imo though.

Bushwacker can probably equip AC/10 and 2 LPLs.

Hard to fit 2 LPLs in the CT...not to mention the sheer tonnage requirements of all that.

Fair point, but in MW3 anyway, hard points were what you made them too. Mount whatever you want wherever you want. Honestly, except for the 3D model and tonnage available, all mechs were kind of the same.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that older titles were a race to assaults anyway, so lighter mechs were always eventually eclipsed.

Congrats on that run with the Shadow Cat BTW.

And yeah, the Bushwacker's performance will more than likely be determined by what quirks it receives, it's scale, and hard point placement. Hard point type and tonnage is unremarkable, but then again, we are kind of at that point anyway in MWO. Every real unique load out seems to have been done. There is going to be a lot of redundancy going forward. We will have to rely on quirks for uniqueness.

No, no, no...it's the Unseen Phoenix Hawk, which used the same model as the Robotech Super Veritech Battleoid.

VF-1S Valkyrie with F.A.S.T. Packs from Super Dimensional Fortress Macross...

It was the art that got alterd, a little, for TRO 3025's Phoenix Hawk....

I think the second one was done by Bishop Steiner, one of the various forum personalities you will find on these boards.

What's so good about the Bushwhacker? It's a hardpoint-starved 55-ton mech that has almost the same hardpoints as a Centurion and is cursed with the vulnerable hitboxes of the Cauldron Born. What are you supposed to do with it?

Just lousey lousey hardpoints. I don't see this being a good mech in MWO.

I thought it might be one of Bishop's, must have missed that one while forum browsing. It's his version of the Assassin I like too.

Ok, I think there's a place in MWO for the Bushwacker. But only because I have fond memories of being on the beach with it and shooting gulls out of the air with an ERLL.
