Graphics Card permitting... look into upping your resolution.

Go Settings > Video > Resolution, and click the drop down menu:

(1680x1050 is my native resolution)

Select the next highest resolution:

Q: What does increasing my resolution have with advanced zoom?
A: You must first understand how Advanced Zoom works. Advanced zoom first zooms in your screen, and then it takes an area of prerendered pixels and then scales/enlarges those pixels into a larger viewing screen (center). Increasing your resolution higher than the native resolution of your screen means that you are rendering pixels that your monitor can't display, however, we can take advantage of this as advanced zoom will still recognize these pixels as part of the frames you are rendering, and it will give you a higher density image when scaled up.

This affects UI elements that pass through the scaled area...

And notice the increase in details...

NOTICE: TURN OFF AA IF YOU INCREASE YOUR RESOLUTION

When you are rendering at a higher resolution than your screen can display, you still have some benefits. This is also called SUPERSAMPLING, and when you do this you may feel free to turn off your Anti Aliasing. Since rendering at a higher resolution will most certainly eat up FPS, turning off your AA will help free up frames as it is technically unnecessary to have AA on while supersampling. I've had the pleasure of enjoying sharper and clearer images by increasing my resolution, while staying at a similar, or greater, FPS.
Also, AA may blur your image when you use Advanced Zoom.

Other benefits include more consistent glows, as it's now rendering more pixels to base the glow off of on sharp objects. Textures in the distance blend better. And a couple other stuff too.

193 fps in polar highlands @ native (AA Disabled)
98 fps in polar highlands @ increased resolution (AA Disabled)

Neat bit of information. idk how many people were wanting this, but it's better than just keeping it to yourself.

Thanks haha. I dunno either, but for me the advanced zoom sucks, and this helped. bonus that i can disable AA.

Haha oh yeah.. that. It gets small... scaling is bad in mechlab, but i've gotten used to it hope you can do, if it's worth it for you. :)

You gain 100 FPS from turning off AA? What rig are you running?

I think it's neat that you posted the comparison pictures but overall this just seems like a redundant thing to suggest. It's like 'by the way, did you know that you can turn up to a higher res?'

Surely most people who have a) a monitor capable of super HD and b ) the monster rig required to push 60+ FPS at super HD have enough common sense to realise they can turn on super HD and get better graphics...

Edit: ok I re-read your post and I actually understand what you mean now

I actually have to run at a lower resolution than native so that I can read the text in the mech lab; I have to run it at 1440p rather than 2160p. Sure I could do mechlab fiddling then up it again but that's way too much hassle. Also game is too prone to fps dips at 4k on my rig :( (GTX 780 Ti)

@Yosharian - what the OP is talking about is running at higher than native to improve advanced zoom, and incidentally to take away the need for antialiasing as you effectively get that through down-sampling.

lol, it's a good monitor. didn't need 1080p. Mostly got it for good colour calibration as I do more art than games. Not the best for games because it also locked at 59hz, rather than 60, so even with vsync there's still screen tearing... Anyways, that's besides the point.

And as for the AA, FXAA and MSAA produce different results and consume various amounts of fps. TXAA is the most consuming. GTX770

Photographers and videographer have been doing similar to this for years. The cameras can take a ton higher resolution than common print and video media. The initial higher res allows for a better image if you have to zoom or crop the initial frame. The older square format cameras where almost always printed as rectangles, but the bigger image allowed for a better finished image in the details.

Or... or... don't run advanced zoom and mount a useful module instead? Haha.

Probably not. Advanced Zoom, like every other zoom and vision mode is server authoritative. If it's just Adv. Zoom you're having lag with, I'm not sure what to tell you. Sorry :(

Zoom lag is because of server authorization... very noticeable with my 4 ping in oceanic vs 260 elsewhere
