It occurred to me that one of the key ways to keep people playing is to offer incentives. Similarly, one of the best ways to get people to spend money is to cut prices. PGI has already mentioned doing very-short-term specials (there was an example involving a 4-hour discount on a chassis in one of their interviews IIRC), and they already do weekend sales of one kind or another (like the current Battlemaster Customization Sale), but with UI 2.0 it should be even easier for them to do an even larger variety of sales.
What I propose, then, is that every weekend PGI run a special event. This event would combine a sale with some ancillary benefit, like free premium time for the duration of the event, or double xp for all matches played, or even straight-up double c-bill earnings.
Assuming the back-end updates to UI 2.0 that will enable dynamic store changes will also allow other changes, I think that reliably hosting special events every weekend would keep people playing and draw back some of those who have lost interest. It'd also be a great PR move, helping to draw new players and get some good will with the community.
I have included a poll with many of the likely sales and special events that PGI could offer. I deliberately avoided challenges and other things that their upcoming achievement system would deal with.
Let me know what you think, and maybe we can see a plethora of new weekend special events coming down the pipeline.
