When you fire X amount of weapons at a time, you will have X amount of damage applied to all weapons that were used.

This way, when you fire a ton of weapons...let me rephrase that...

This way, when you fire tons of weapons, you have a massive penalty. This /would/could make you useless (as your weapons are destroyed).

A truly brilliant and innovative approach to curtail the massive Alpha Strike of Doom™.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is what Paul came up with.

And people think my idea of "making alpha strikes inaccurate" was too extreme

I'm going to go out and say I would be very surprised if PGI used this. A little bit too much lacking on the logic side, even for PGI mechanics.

Hopefully not, but still they have not demonstrated understanding that the problem is not the total alpha strike value but the ability to apply a deadly amount of damage at long ranges with perfect, instant precision. If they can understand WHY Dual Gauss is far better than 1 AC20 + 4 SRM6's, despite the latter having a much higher alpha value, then maybe they can understand what needs to be fixed... and, no, it's "Gauss needs more nerfing."

Aw, I was hoping for some kind of graphic or video to help explain this idea.

x = ((dh/dt) - threshold) * penalty

change in heat over time. if you put out a big alpha dh/dt will be high. if its higher than threshold then a small penalty is applied based on the excess.

the h in this case is your mech heat. as weapons fire their heat is added to it and disipates by a rate decided by your heat sink configuration and count. so if you are blasting away frequently or using high alphas the rate of change of your mech heat is going to be huge. it it is bigger than a certain threshold, it multiplies by a penalty to give you x. x, if positive, gets fed back into mech heat.

throw on some redline penalties like slowdown and a breakdown of convergence (your potato of a targeting computer is overheating after all). and were golden.

You have 4 skittles, and every time you alpha you lose a skittle.
When you have 0 skittles, all your weapons are grouped into Weapon Group 1 and set to chainfire for the rest of the match.

Alternatively, I would not be shocked to find out that they limited Alphas to 30 points no matter what you fire.

Fire 2 Gauss and 2 PPCs? 30 points.
Fire 6 Medium Lasers? 30 points.
Fire 12 Small Pulse lasers? 30 points.

Likely if you alpha over 40 your mech gets deleted. If you also fired X weapons during alpha you just get banned. Fear will make them obey.

So CoF mechanics, altering the GH mechanics, all stupid ideas...but what this OP is saying is PGI is thinking of making it where if you fire 60 damage worth of guns, there is only a max amount of say 30 damage applied from that all? And that makes more sense then other ideas?

"Dice damage." You fire a laser thinking you do 3 damage but you secretly roll for damage between .07 damage to 2.99 damage. Patent pending trade marked in u.s.a. using 100% organic ingredients contents main contain nuts you will die of cancer etc.

I think he's more thinking along the lines of "what insane idea will be implemented to fix the problem" vs. supporting that insane idea.

The best idea is to make dissipation decrease as your heat increases

so if your heat is really high then it would take a very long time to cool down

as opposed to if you just kept your heat low by chain firing youd dissipate very fast

then youd have to choose between alphastriking and taking a long time to cool off or chain firing continuously
