They don't exist. The only hitbox is the CT. No matter how much i seem to torso twist, any shot, any, seem to hit the CT on this mech. I really want to like it, but PGI you are making it really hard.

It's a problem with any mech with a protruding center torso, why many have a hard time with the Black Knight and Battlemaster. You can shield but you need to torso twist HARD. Even then, LRM showers have made it back in the meta and a missile always finds you CT no matter what without a ECM buddy.

If you're using a slow-*** Standard engine... yep. CT is a bullet magnet for the very reason Steel mentioned. Which is one of many reasons I find using a STD engine in them only screwing ones experience over in the chassis. I noticed it pretty fast while torso twisting, though it was less of an issue with the variant with duration reductions for lasers, hence gravitating away from them.
Nicely sized XL 325-340? It rolls damage pretty well with the torso twist quirks, much like Battlemasters and their oft-bemoaned gorilla arms with a beefy XL turn that feature into a benefit due to the amount of shielding they give. Eliting them also helps out quite a bit given the torso twist/speed increases over basic.
As is, I've said it before and I'll say it again; it's a waste of the chassis running a std engine on it; it loses anything remotely distinctive while still not tanking as readily as other IS std heavies. May be handy for an SRM brawler, but other loadouts I'd rather be twisting around and moving like a zippy ballerina. Leave std tanking for the Marauders and the xl deathtrap Thunderbolts.

I was going to come in here and start ranting about what a giant piece of **** the WHM is, but I figured, let me try ONE last time to do the torso twisting to see if I can get any better at it.
Nope. There is a SERIOUS problem with the hitboxes on this Mech.
In the match that I was just in (which is still running as I type), I had bright yellow armor on my CT. I was turned away such that I was getting hits on my side. Before I know it, "Warning: centre torso critical damage!" I thought maybe they'd hit my back armor and that's why CT was critical, but when I looked at my armor, back armor was still intact but the front armor was completely stripped away and the CT was red. And only from a few hits.
I don't know what the hell is going on, but this problem really needs to get fixed. I'm already having huge issues trying to make this Mech work (even with maxed engine it is slow, lethargic and clumsy; I think the Titanic had a faster turn rate than the speed this thing torso twists at), but the CT issue pretty much makes it DOA for me.

run XLs then. solution to any mech that's CT bullet magnet. since you're gonna get cored out anyway, might as well have more firepower, more speed in the first place.

I run my WHM with a STD and I almost always lose my side torsos first. Our experiences vary, apparently.

I've been putting more time in, plenty of games I'm nothing but a center torso standing on one leg so it's not horrible but shielding is tough against a high DPS opponent and LRMs
I have seen some good XL builds but I have a XL allergy (I sneeze and my mech explodes) So I'll take my chances with the STD 300.

I'm having great success with XL300, 3LPL, 3SRM4 build.
Tag for help friendlies or you can ditch it for armor,or ditch tag, 1 DHS and shave off the "shield arm" for Artemis.

By design it also works great if you switch torso LPL's with regular PPC's due to 30% velocity, but -15% on laser duration is great as well.

Guys, forgive me if this insults your intelligence. I only mention it as I didn't notice it myself the first couple of run outs with a couple of the WHM variants - the stock armour is virtually non-existent on the CT! I didn't notice it at first because it's not the case across all the variants..
Anyway - I'm sure you were all more observant than me......

Can't say that I've experienced these issues myself. I'm running my Whammies with XL engines and they're generally good at rolling damage. It's usually my side torsos that lose their armour first.
The issue might very well have been real, but if it was, it got fixed in the meantime.

I have to disagree with the OP.
I have at least gotten my 3 Warhammers up beyond Basic and yes, at times the CT does 1st, but I believe that this happens not since many more people in the game are using pinpoint weaponry. ER Large Lasers in bulk, chain fired PPCs, Medium pulse lasers all these things are pretty much focused in one spot, usually dead center.
I have swam through LRM fire, it wasn't fun, it hurt, but my STD engine survived.
This is usually when I throw someone above me under the bus, and state that STDs are better then XLs, but I'd be a liar.
I go by this quota when building my mechs, The bigger the mech, the more Standard the engine.
I'm fairly sure that everyone remembers how laughably fragile the stock Boar's Head was with the 400XL engine....
I will be honest, if you need a faster turning mech, go XL. If you don't mind the grind, go STD.
Doesn't personally matter to me, a kill with XL is worth a kill with STD. But at least with the STD engine, if the torso goes, you still have about 30 seconds to try to kill your opponent.
