Quirks are:
Medium Laser Duration -5%
Laser Weapon Duration -5%

So if I build toward that (3 MLs with range etc modules) it means I have to hold MLs on target -10% of the time to get max damage. But most of my fights are hit and run, so what's the point? How much damage does a ML do if you don't hold but just connect on a drive by? Wouldn't it make more sense to go with 2 meds pulse lasers ? (moving at 150)

Also, am confused about best missile as secondary. Streaks are good for chasing away lights, LRM5 gives me *some* way to connect over distance but especially over hills (when I'm giving ecm to my assault line), and just the launch seems to make enemy pilots move into cover. But can SRMs be blind fired at close range without a lock?

there are a number of possible ways to build a 3L, as you said the quirks are not significant, so I would ignore them when it comes to that Mech, I am sure plenty of others will offer you specific builds, in my opinion the 3L is well suited for 3 rolls

scout/spotter,
take the ECM, a NARC and your choice of other weapons, just concentrate on NARCing the enemy, provided your team has LRMs you will get decent income from spotting and NARC assists.

ECM Sheild
stick with the main group and provide ECM cover, pack any weapons you want, your score may be a bit lower than other roles but you will seriously help the team.

Sniper
ECM + 2 ERLL, you will probably get high damage and good earnings but be of less help to the team than the other 2 roles.

There is the old 3 ML, ECM and 2 SSRM 2's.

the 3ML, ECM, 2 LRM 5's

LRM 20 in the Narc tube, forgot that is gone but fun to watch at least once,

3 ML, ECM, SRM 6, SRM 4

3ML, ECM, 2 SRM 4

ECM 2 ERLL

ECM, ERPPC, TAG or ML (use the TAG to help aim the PPC)

SSRMs cannot be dumbfired, but you can use standard SRMs instead. A single LRM 5 is probably not worth it on any mech. An AMS will eat it up. Even 10 misssiles is pretty ineffective against AMS. You are probably better off with longer range lasers rather than long rang missiles.

My 3L build runs 2 ml, TAG and streaks. Love the build. Load it with a UAV and an artie strike and you're good to go. I regularly do 400-600 and frequently do 700+.

Regarding your question, regular srms do not lock or track the target. They are dumb fire only.

RVN-3L

The 2 ER-LL build is the best way to run a Raven. All the characteristics of this mech make it ideal for this build.

Ravens are outclassed by Jenners and and Firestarters for Mlas brawling builds, but unmatched in the ranged sniper role.

The Raven is the most versatile light chassis and the 3L adds ECM to that versatility. It can do a lot of different things pretty well. You have high mounted energy hardpoints and ECM, so long range sniping will work. It has the weight to carry a couple SRM tubes which can be deadly up close. The ECM makes it a great choice for spotting/tagging/narcing for friendly LRM platforms. Hell, if you're feeling crazy enough you can fit some LRMs in it and hammer away from cover. It can do a lot.

I have all the Ravens and I just love the bejeebers out of them...and the Commandos. I just love Ravens and Commandos.

ECM shield and sniper can be combined somewhat though if you are willing to accept slighly lesser kills/damage. You can stick with the team and still get quite a few good licks in with 2xERLL.

I run mine with Dual ML's and Dual SRM4's.. Have pulled as many as 5 kills and 800+ damage in it. I play as lance support/scout.. Get behind LRM boats, help take down assaults, give light mech defence, ect.. Raven's are highly under rated with builds outside of the Dual LL.. Give um a shot!

I do love MPL's, But all my ravens i run ML's, all but the 4X, that one i run dual pulse. really it is up to you, play and find out what works best for you.

I favour the 2 ER Large Lasers and ECM build on my Raven. With a big XL engine and the speed tweak skill you can really shift. This allows my 3L to function as a multi-role platform. If my team has plenty of ECM then I can work as a scout or as a mobile sniper. If there isn't the ECM coverage then I can provide support for the rest of the team.

Followup - the 2ERL is working good for me. And its versatile enough for me to play scout sniper or ecm escort.

Thanks for all the advice - you guys were very helpful.

The 2ERLL sniper build with ecm is highly effective. SideStrafe has a good video and here's a video of my own work in it.
