I played a bunch up till 2013 but stopped and am coming back to the game with all the changes any suggestion on what to do or look at first to get back up to speed?

Welcome back.
I would say just get in there
What do you have to lose?

- Do you have a headset? There is in game VOIP now. You may hear some of the darnest things even without a headset.
- Lotsa new Mechs including Clans.
- Tech changes, take a few days (no joke) to absorb it all. A few off hand, ECM radius reduced, various modules added, quirks for a lotta Mechs affecting how you build and play them.

I'm like you (founder) played a little but found it was difficult to even get a kill, played other stuff and came back 3 months ago and am enjoying it now,
it has changed a lot, i feel it's easier to learn now.
A lot of the players don't play much as a team which i find so frustrating but that might be the lower teirs, but everyone is friendly.
I turned off the voice chat because there would be too many players barking orders when no one listens anyway.
There are a lot of vids on you tube if you want to catch up.

Quirks are currently the big thing that decides which mech is good and which is bad. The system is pretty convoluted and likely going to get simplified at some point, but if you want to look into them yourself, there's a list of all mechs with quirks here: http://snafets.de/mwo/quirks.htm
Basically, when you're building a mech, you want to use weapons on that mech that benefit from the quirks on that variant.
If you want to get in as fast as possibly, you can skip that and see if you already own some of the mechs listed here as tier 1 or tier 2 and take a build from there: http://metamechs.com...-lists/is-list/
The builds on that site might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they are a solid starting point, doing a pretty good job highlighting what a specific variant's strongest aspect might be in the current balance.
When you have a mech you like set up to 2016 standards, just jump in and shoot some enemy mechs. The balance is very different, hit reg is much better, there are new maps, but the gameplay itself it's pretty much the same. You haven't played since the new Pilot Skill Rating system was implemented, so the matchmaker will be placing you in matches as if you were a brand new player. You shouldn't feel completely way over your head. GLHF.

Like you i've only recently returned, and oh my lord its changed! However once I managed to get my head around the mech bay UI and jump in game it feels.. Better... Much better.
To anyone who remembers the LRMagadden days and the hitreg issues, its improved so much its not even funny. Some issues remain though and light mechs are still barstards (they always will be i'd imagine) Clan war is still a mystery to me at the moment though, puging it really isnt fun so far at all.. But then this has always been a game where teamwork equals success.
I'm certainly enjoying the game much more than I used too, so my advice is just jump back in to you old mech's and let rip!

Hello BBanzai, the unit BerSerKer welcomes every Founder back in the game. We made it our mission to ease the return for Founders, to make sure they don't get scared from all the new stuff and leave again. If you need help or have any questions, let me know. We hang out on the public teamspeak of ComStar: na1.mech-connect.net

Welcome back BB
I'd suggest giving it a try. I was pleasantly surprised with the changes I saw, for the most part anyhow, after a year or so away.
