Do you like your slow, big, and imposing Mechs? Do you often take time to meditate and plod through the battlefield when the match starts? Do you often walk towards your enemies while looking sideways? Then you must have an Atlas!

Besides the obvious Atlai which have been buffed quite recently so they can perform their supposed role better, what other 'Mechs can function similar to them? How do they fare compared to the venerable Atlai? Let's list some of them (feel free to add more!!!):

Only the Atlas and the Highlander have meaningful structure buffs. The BLR-1S could use an XL to move much faster and therefore perhaps shouldn't be here, not to mention that its armor is on the low side for an Assault. I don't include the Victor because I'm not sure about it (them).

I have only ever used the Atlas and Highlander with any regularity so I can't really comment on the others with their experimental builds. Do you have any other Mechs besides the Atlas which you use as a slow "thinking man's" brawler?

I was running this a lot recently:
MAL-MX90
but I eventually settled on this one for the extra range:
MAL-MX90

I know, ghost heat, blah blah blah... but I think those AC20's are close to, if not even better than the one on the Hunchie 4G. Well, you trade heat gen for the cooldown, but I wanted to do something different...

i dont think the king crab makes a great brawler. its more of a ranged sustained fire platform imho. twisting does not hide your center torso and exposes your guns for immediate removal.

Nice, I forgot about dual AC/20 on Maulers!

Mal-1R - Because what's the point of having 4 high ballistic mounts on a 90 ton mech if you aren't going to give people seizures? And until PGI nerfs the -15% cd, I will consider in this build being far better than the 5 ac5 MX90.

KGC Brawler, eh? I present to you:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...5d0bcc5c69da101

She's got the speed, agility, ammo and heat dissipation to double-fire for days! Capable of blowing up pesky lights and stealing faith in a single shot! The Mad Crab of the Oceans, the Clamper King of the Seas!

I prefer a Dire Wolf Prime but use some of the other omni pods.

I have max armor on everything but the legs

Here is my loadout:

4x CUAC 5
6x CER Small Lasers
2 CLRM 10
4 Tons CLRM Ammo
10 Tons CUAC 5 Ammo
2 C Double Heat Sink

I have all 4 CUAC Fire Linked and all 6 CER Small Lasers fire linked.

I regularly do over 800 damage, usually get 3 or 4 kills and the same number of KMDD.

Had my best match ever tonight, 1620 damage, 6 kills, 7 KMDD.

Don't need to torso twist with this mech, you can continuously fire the CUAC 5, and alpha 4 or 5 times with the lasers and fire the LRMS from 700 meters or so until 180 meters. I usually aim at the right torso of an atlas, can knock out the AC 20 before they can even fire usually. I love this mech :) you don't need armor quirks..it takes a lot to put it down.

Also this KGC-0000 - it's not so much a brawler as it is a "Hi, I just shredded your entire face off" kind of mech, but I needed to use some cool shots up. Pretty fun for most of the quick play maps, especially if you draw a team that wants to turtle.

Awesome-8R > Mauler 1R in terms of SRM bombing, thanks to huge structure and torso twist quirks.

BLR-2C is also a great brawler, thanks to abundant structure and mobility quirks.

Still my favorite Mauler

Left two on 1, right two on 2, chain-fire on 3. Throw on the LBX cool down module and go to town.

I use to think 48 kph was a normal speed for a 100 ton assault or a weapon loaded assault. Now many years later it is just food for nascar light mechs.

I used to run this BNC-3S back when you could fire 8 MPLs without GH and its mobility was not nerfed by pilot skill tree nerfs, it was quite potent.

KGC...never leave one behind...never put one in front. Simply the best mediocre assault in MWO. You cant miss it...but you can't ignore it... dps far better than any other in my opinion... One does not simply walk up to a KGC in my opinion

Finally someone mentioning the AWS-8R.

I use it with 4SRM6+Artemis and 2LLs + 1ML. Its DA BOMB. I think i didnt play any mech more often than this one.

Also a KGC with 1xAC20, 3xLPL and 3xSRM4 is also a pretty brutal build to stand against. Makes people run away pretty quickly hehe

Actually right on its face is the safest place to be, you entirely eliminate the use of its arms.

I can vouch for that. Managed to kill a King Crab 1v5 with my Jager by hugging it. KGC arms were too wide to deal much damage to me and his four mates were too afraid to shoot through its rear.
