March patch brings an automatic penalty for team damage (amount to be determined) and team kills that works much in the same way as the disco penalty. Will this be effective to stop the team kills or the lazy aiming?

I think it is a welcomed change to keep people from trying to ruin others game-play experience.

Thoughts?

I agree with this.

The only team kills I have had were both due to lazy aiming. One was an air strike I dropped before I looked at the minimap and realised my team were deathballing strait at it. The other was when I zoomed in firing quad cUAC10 from my dire and twisted into my own my own brother while I was tracking my target and blasted the back armour of his Centurion.

Eh it is fine for the most part, but I have never been a fan of punishing people for something that may or may not have been their fault. The c-bill penalty for damage for instance is kind of silly imo.

Team damage to be determined. But probably starting around 70 damage, probably getting lowered.

But my LRMs have no control over its flight when a friendly mech hugs an enemy. Posted Image

It shows how much FF you do at the end of a match. Do you regularly top 70 FF damage?

i mean, I run LRM's a lot too, but I don't think I've ever done more than 50 FF damage (excepting intentional FF vs. unit mates!)

I try hard not to damage my team, but at times, you can't. Like when I am unloading on a mech and they run right in front of me and take a full alpha to the back...so they can try and get the kill. Then I don't feel so bad then.

I'm also referring to the TK part.

Russ said the odd TK is still only a delay of seconds to joining a match at worst; if anything at all.

The automated system is to catch frequent offenders.

would be nice if we got a freaking INDICATION that we are dealing or have dealt or are about to deal team damage...
  • Perhaps some better HUD indicators when a raytrace from your weapons pass over an teammate? (an X, or a cancel sign over reticle?)
  • Perhaps an audible cue when you deal x points of team damage?
  • Perhaps REWARD players who DON'T deal team damage?
  • Perhaps HUD updates (same as rewards that pop up) to tell us how much team damage we've dealt?
  • Perhaps something on the Scoreboard to show that information?
SERIOUSLY.

What I hate about this whole thing is that PGI is PENALIZING actions, but they are not EDUCATING or giving players the TOOLS to avoid potential accidental team damage, outside of a boring penalty that's just handed out, and you're like, "Oh... uhh.. okay?" with your pants down by your ankles.

Been asking for a threshold based penalty since 2014... Been asking for hud indicators much longer, as have MANY others...

I don’t like it
We are too lazy so let’s penalize everyone

Now good idea would be team kills in the first 1 min of play is almost always intentional

But one time I went to join up with a lance and they were in a full blown fire fight
One guy started shooting there team mate and then all 3 took him out

Another time the same thing happened but when I typed what happened the offender killed my Raven (1st time out in my Raven)

These auto penalties is because PGI is too lazy to do proper moderation

I'm fine with it as long as people remember to not park their light mechs right in front of the PPCs on my Warhawk while I'm distracted.

Like voter fraud, why spend time on it?

Team kills are so rare why did this need attention? Team damage is also not a factor so why?

So I well be punished for accidental team damage even more? Or PGI will be competent enough to put big enough dmg threshold? Something suggests me, that they won't.

Some players walk in front of other 'Mech, while they're firing, hug enemies and block your line of fire in order to steal your kill. No punishment for them? And sometimes the fact of line of fire block isn't clear due to bad visibility - when you use heat vision for example. And, if you didn't know, it's against COC too:

GRIEFING
  • Willfully or repeatedly blocking teammate ‘Mechs or weapon trajectories.
I don't want to lose my score in order to avoid griefing - it's double griefing.

I think an EXPONENTIAL modifier needs to be applied to team kills. I can understand 10k for a single TK, wrong place wrong time. Do it twice in the same match amd get ready to hemorrhage C bills for a few days. There was even 1 match I was in where a guy on the opposing team killed 5 of his own team mates before we were even half way across the map, stuff like that should warrant an automated ban-hammer applied directly to the cockpit.

Won't really affect me at all. And the people who go out of their way to hurt teammates because they're so angry on the internet, they won't really care about the 10,000 C-bill penalty or whatever it is. <shrug>

Would have been much, much better to create an achievement system for players who manage to avoid team damage or teamkills over an extended period of time. Positive reinforcement.

Sounds like my Cbills taking a run down the hill then. I rarely have matches without teamdamage... (usually 5-30 dmg)
Mostly due to allys who love to run into a firing gun/misslelauncher or keep sitting in front of my guns in a firefight so i get trashed without beeing able to shoot back if i dont want to hurt my ally or reorder all my weapons to exclude the ones blocked from my firecircle.
Heck since i rarely play and switch between mechs all the time i don't even know wich weapons are where since you got no indicator at where the weaponslots are when you setup the firegroups

Same here. Some 'Mechs, like King Crab, have very wide arms and I can't watch my sides, especially when I use Zoom to snipe. And some noobish team mates don't watch, where they are going. And I hate situation, where enemies shoot at me and I can't return fire, cuz some noobs blocked my line of fire, too. If this penalties will be just strait conversion from team dmg into CB penalty - then it will cause lots of griefing. I personally usually have team dmg, that doesn't exceed 20-30. But even little penalty is still penalty to rewards, that are overgimped even without it.
