Coming from a Southern family that's fairly overweight and being extremely overweight myself growing up (200 lbs at 12), I never put much stock into my physical image or my over-all health. I had it all. Horrible breath, chest pains, breathing difficulties, no stamina, no strength, poor skin, I could go on.

After becoming extremely ill over new years around 6 years ago and losing over 50 lbs due to explosive expulsions from both ends and not being able to keep anything down other than Saltines and Gatorade for almost a month, I've become very active and regularly frequent the gym in the rec center of my university's campus, and have finally regained the lost weight, but this time in muscle mass, and I have never felt more alive in my life.

That being said, video games are still a huge part of my life, and it's become a tradition of mine to post a similar topic in the forum of whatever gaming community I join to see how many others out there break the typical basement dweller stereotype that society seems to keep wanting to force on those who play games or just love "nerdy" stuff in general, or at least try to or are interested in improving their physical health.

Personal achievements, goals, advice, routines, and the such are more than welcome.

After all, your 'Mech has big guns; shouldn't you? Posted Image

I am a nerd. I wear glasses, get good marks, like sci-fi ,etc. But I try to make us nerds look good.I go to gym, go out with my friends and even talk to girls. And honestly, I don't spend all that much time playing games. And yet I consider myself to be a nerd.I like being a nerd. A buff and successful nerd.

NERDS RULE!!!!

Maaaaaaa ?
Come down here, there is another hilarious dude calling my very satisfying lifestyle bad names .

/jk

Imma riding a bicycle.
Every day I got to work, irregardless of weather .
14km a day, about 300 days a year .
Keeps my booty fresher than most of those hilarous gym-types could even imagine ;)
Playing computer games and that old prejudice ... they will never get separated, because it is history and our nerdy culture that makes jealous people bring forth idiocies like dat .

Stay healthy, Children of the Metal .

I disapprove of the title to this thread. If you want to tell us about your bad health, I have no problem. Your intro leaves a lot to be desired.

If you look at a height weight chart, I'm over weight. Grab hold of me, and you will discover a lot less flab and a lot more muscle than you would expect. However, grabbing hold of me is a bad idea.

Lazy, ok yeah some days. Greasy, alright sometimes. Manchild, almost always. Basement, nope second floor here! Fat, sorry I look like a white Ethiopian crack addict, that starved for 1337 days. (It's a family trait LMFAO)

I'm a nerd, I write science fiction novels and I like being antisocial. Nerds are awesome.

I even managed to reproduce! We're doomed.

Am I lazy? Probably, I often have trouble dragging myself out of bed in the morning.
Am I inactive? No, I average about 1 hour a day exercise, usualy cycling and/or walking.
Am I overweight? yes.
Do I live in my mothers basement? no, I rent a flat (what Americans would call an apartment).

My primary hobby, which takes precedence over video games, is body building (being on a five day split, plus doing cardio, takes some dedication, I suppose, as well as maintaining a diet as strict as mine). I got a proper job and attend university on the weekends 'cause I'm not gonna be content without a degree - should have one by now had I not messed up after finishing school. So I'm now clawing my way back to where I ought to be the hard way. I've been in a stable relationship for well over two years, too, and am maintaining a close relationship with a bunch of my friends as well as my family despite all of the time sinks in my life.

You be the judge on whether to call me lazy Posted Image

Most people who're judging me by my looks actually take me for a bit of a jock and immediately assume I gotta be a little stupid. I don't think there's anything remotely nerdy about my appearance - glasses aside, but bad eye sight runs in the family.Posted Image

I thought about going to the gym a couple days ago and then I walked over to the fridge and got another beer. That is all the exercise I can handle, I think.

I've been a gamer for about 30 years and have a BMI of 30, so I am clinically obese. But it ain't fat.

I'd rather be gaming than going out getting drunk. I can combine gaming with gym too since I have my own gym. Play a match, do a set or two, play a match, do another set.

Having lived in California most of my 50 years, where homes never have basements...I always wonder about this assumption I run across often about people living in them.

Basements are much more common in places where Winter actually means something.

Or where there is common flooding... because everyone needs to drain their basement. You are from Michigan you know what I mean lol. Right after winter when all the melting hell breaks loose.

Not from Michigan, just live here now. From Alabama, where basements aren't generally found either. But yes, I unfortunately know exactly what you mean.

Other than an invitation to humble brag, or even just brag, I do not see the point of this thread. MWO is well known for having, shall we say, a more mature player base (Wind, you may only be 13 but I know damn well you are more mature than many of the folks I have dropped with). That said, most such folks won't give a damn about stereotypes, and of course most folks -regardless of age- are not going to read your thread title or OP and say "yep that's me!" except as an exercise (pardon the pun) in gen x (or otherwise) driven irony/sarcasm.

As to your request for admissions of personal achievement, etc. no, I am not a greasy, basement dweller. I am an attorney and a farmer. The first keeps my mind sufficiently numb so as to enjoy if not require MWO to stimulate it. The chores necessary to successfully do the latter keep me at the same weight I was when I graduated college. I never "work out", exercise is for the lazy. ;)
