This is an alternate build of a Hunchback that changes it from a front-line brawler to a hunter-killer of recon 'Mechs. A simple conversion from the brutally powerful but short ranged AC20 to a half as potent but longer ranged AC10 nets a total gain of two tons. Use just these two tons to remove the 8.5 ton 200 rating Nissan engine to an Extralight 300 rating Vlar engine weighing 9.5 tons and increase the gyro from 2 to 3 tons. This change gives the Hunchback a speed increase of 50%!
It could be left right there (for cost reasons) but if you remove the 3 additional heatsinks along with the left arm medium laser you can then replace the right arm Medium Laser with a Large Laser. To cover this heat boost, convert heatsinks to Double Efficiency and the larger engine can contain all of them within. Adding EndoSteel is the best change yet because it allows the removed left arm Medium Laser to be put back on plus an extra Medium Laser added to that same arm. The remaining half-ton gained from the EndoSteel is simply used to install CASE for pilot peace of mind. The Small Laser is left as is.
The Cornerback is quick enough to get close to enemy scouts and recon units, armored like a Hunchback so can take a decent pounding even with the XL Engine, and has two powerful mid-ranged weapons to cripple the previously mentioned recon screen before they can manage to scramble out of range. In addition, the Cornerback has great heat endurace - fire all weapons and run with no heat buildup - which lets it maintain its speed (if this disadvantage is implemented). It is also useful for "covering the corners" of the battle with its speed or providing long range direct-fire support to larger brethren.
This is basically a faster but non-jump capable version of one of my favorites - the Enforcer. Another slight modification (at even more cost) would be to upgrade both the Large Laser to an Extended Range version and place a LB 10-X autocannon in the right torso rather than a basic Autocannon 10. This will actually net a gain of one ton which I recommend be used for another ton of ammo - specifically Cluster ammunition. If there is no toggling and Piranha needs to handicap the LB (like other BT/MW games) and make it shotgun only, use the ton for a heatsink to compensate for the ER Large Laser. Between the added Double Heatsink and the lower heat of the LB 10-X, the additional heat generated by the ER Large Laser is negated by 75% if this option is used. This change also has the added benefit of increasing the range of the two main guns out to mid-500 meters or so.
Well, here is my version of a Hunter-Killer 'Mech and will more than likely be the version you will see me when I pilot my Founder Hunchback. It suits my style of play (minus jump jets) and I look forward to using it especially if the LB 10-X has a toggle-interface to switch between Slug and Cluster rounds.
Thanks for (hopefully entirely) reading my long post and commenting,

Sounds like an interesting build. Personally I wouldn't want to have only 2 weapons though. But a 50% speed increase on a hunchback sure is useful.

It sounds fairly nice, though i'd still be worried about using the XL when people will so often aim for the huchbacks side torso

That may be true but if you keep your speed up it becomes more difficult especially if you are at range. I also realized that this has the same speed as a Raven...bird hunting anyone?

Sounds interesting! But where are you storing the ammo? If in the torso, you don't need CASE: an ammo explosion will take out your XL engine and core you anyways (unless you are just trying to save the pilot's life - in which case it makes sense).

CASE really won't help much if you have an XL engine

XL Engine on a mech with so thin torso armor could be bad. (One side torso down and you´re out)
In addition I think it will cost you one or the other c-bill...
Anyway its an interessting config.

Ammo can go in the right arm.
I'd go with a slightly slower version and more ac ammo myself but the concept is sound.
