The following is a TLC match continuation of the discussion elsewhere that might help many players of any skill level. Tanking. How do we? And even if one is not tanking intentionally, how not to get blasted in 3 seconds?

IS mechs have better alpoha strike capabilities and shorter face times for weapons. Their hitboxes are also advantageous for the lost art of TWISTING and deflection. They are awful however at "face time" combat meaning don't twist and you die quick!
Clan mechs have ginormous frontal hitboxes, bad for twisting but have high face time weapons and anyone with half a brain has insanely high front armor. Get them from the side!!!! Get their legs. Get the pelvis! As one if you don't twist you can live long! Heh, it's practically 'twist and die' for most Clan mechs.

Sorry if I necro-quote, but this is an interesting point. I have seen somewhere a theory that one may survive longer in Ebon Jaguar by torso-twisting not 90 degrees to a side like in humanoid mechs, but some 20-ish degrees, since it has a protracted nose and twisting too far aside actually exposes more of CT hitbox than it covers. There are many mechs of such a shape, could this tactic be helpful for them as well? And to the topic, yes, there seems to be more Clan mechs of this kind of shape than IS, at least the mechs we have so far.

I am not sure this belongs in new player help, guides and stratagies or general discussion would be more appropriate as it could become an extremely in depth discussion potentially going into detail on hundreds or even thousands of individual Mech builds, e.g. the way I shield in a GRF-3M is different to the way I shield in an XL engine GRF-2N, which is in turn diferant to how I would sheild on a STD engine GRF-2N but here goes.

How to tank damage is completely dependent on which Mech you are using, the loadout and role it is intended for, in some cases it is better to have a shield side and keep using it even after loosing the arm and torso due to the potentially 84% reduction in incoming damage if it passes through both destroyed arm and destroyed torso, on other Mechs you want to spread the damage all over the Mech, there are a few where you may even want the CT to take damage to protect the sides longer.

in general the best bet is to fire then twist away 90o offering 1 side, when the weapons are ready twist back, fire, twist the other way, but there are plenty of exceptions some of which are mentioned above.
