MWO community is getting smaller . As someone who played this game for nearly 3 years I see same people over and over with very few new faces . I think we are at a point where PGI needs to do some positive changes that would make for better experience for new players .

I understand that you need to make money so some of the things in game are designed for players to waste their C-bills . (Forcing to buy engines that you own while buying mechs,Paying to switch upgrades after you purchased them, buying multiple same modules)I herd all kinds of excuses from you like Table Top numbers. That does not mean you should force players to pay a lot of their hard grinding for something they do not want .

You have to go loosen it up a little bit so new players can breath . I still play this game because I am MW nerd but I do not recommend it to my friends ( can't do it because it know how much crap I had to go through wasting C-bills with Trial and error which still happens to me 3 years later )

I just want to make some suggestions that I think may help you to hold on to new players .

New players are often discouraged by the fact that they have to play a lot of Trial mechs when they start .Additionally to having Trial Mechs I think we should give new player a choice of 1 mech from each weight category from 12 Preset Variants ( 3 mechs in each weight class )

Players love having a choice of what they want to play . There are a lot of mechs in this game and even if you worry about players making new accounts its ok to have 12 specific mechs to pick from . Even if they reset account its still 4 of those 12 variants ( very small portion of entire mech roaster )

As soon as new player gets into the game . He should see 12 Icons ( 3 mechs in each weight class ) and he can pick 4 ( 1 variant from each weight class )

Like I said . Reserving 12 variants for free pick is not a huge deal . It will allow more players to jump straight into enjoying MWO and find their playstyle .

Create a Beginner Value deal .

I have seen lots of games doing very well with it . Make 1 time only Mech pack with a very good value for new accounts . Maybe $40 and put more mechs there than you would normally do . Lots of choices from each weight class and some +30% variants

Make Interactive Tutorial for Mechlab .

Kinda like you did with gameplay tutorial . Have tutorial option for mechlab where narrating guy will guide player step by step through using interface .

Eliminate Dumb C-Bill sink holes . I personally have never played another game other than MWO that would be such a huge beginner Trap when it comes to using in game currency .

Allow players to not pay for Engines (that should be optional) . Please . Why should new player grind for 5 hours and pay for another Mech with same engine he may not want .
Also once you purchased Upgrade on a mech . You should be able to switch that upgrade back and forth for that specific mech . Realism my butt . That is just what mobile games do ( making player pay for same **** )

Limit Quick Match Premades .

I have said it all over last 3 years . Nobody likes playing against teams in random Q . 4 Players should be maximum .

I agree, new players need better choices.
I have seen the Trail mechs and they all have something in common, almost all of them are short range machines while those with long range weapons, ether come with too little ammunition or are only DF.

then there are machines like the cat. it is junk as it only has ammunition based weapons and once its gone they are nothing more then dead weight.

Also MWO GRs, not really a new player friendly weapon system and much such as the Shadow cat configuration I think is a slight disadvantage to new players.

Players need to have machines that give them a chance to learn using different weapon types & different ranges.
the old Chameleon from the first BT game was a great trainer mech for new players.

it had long, medium, & short range weapons to cut their teeth on before moving on.

Heck my first training mech for each weight class was a Locust, Chameleon//Wolverine 6R, Crusader 3R/Merlin, & later on a modified Battlemaster BLR-1G.

The point is I trained on a wide range of mechs and weapon systems(well in 1985 anyways, lol) and that should be done here as well, allow the new players to get the feel of each weight class, weapon types, & range.

in other words SRMs, LRMs, Lasers, and Ballistic(ACs & MGs) weapons.
