would you?

to test how Balance is,
to see what People would really Bring,
(lets also Assume that Mixed Tech is only weapons)

so 3 Questions,
1) What are your thoughts on Tech Balance?
2) would you Participate in a Mixed Tech PTS?
3) what would you Test and Try out?

Thoughts, Comments, Concerns?
Thanks,

Edit- Weapon thoughts,

No, I'm not downloading the PTS install again.

1. They should just advance the timeline.
2. No. See first line.
3. What people would bring is Clan weapons/tech on IS mechs. There's almost no reason to go the other way, even in the case of auto-cannons.

i recently upgraded my internet and my new cap is now high enough to justify a test client. still im not sure i would show up unless my live account was compensated for time spent in the public test server. cbills, mc, or gxp would all go a long way to making me show up. plus all the xp and cbills i earned in test games.

IS PPC does 5 less damage.
IS SRMs take more tons + slots - really isn't a conversation to be had here the clan versions are vastly superior.
IS LL is a wash with the Clan erLL - but the clan one weighs less and takes 1 less slot
About 1% of the players tier 2 and above use LRMs.

IS LPLs and LLs might still be used because of the 3 ghost heat limit, for example I think you'd see some Timberwolves with IS LPLs in the the 3E torso and some Hellbringer snipers with 3x IS ERLL.

Otherwise I think it would be mostly clan weapons, for example think of a 4xcUAC10 Mauler-MX90. Or a 6xcSPL locust 1E. Or a Shadowhawk 2d2 with clan streaks. Practically every IS mech would benefit big time from some clan weapons.

If weapons were the only mixtech, then I think IS weapons would be mostly used on clan mechs actually. Because in that environment clan mechs would be able to use clan XL to afford heavier weapons while IS mechs would go the other way and use clan weapons to afford IS standard engines. Dire wolves with 6xISAC5 and 4xISAC10 would be a thing I suppose, and some people would put IS pulse lasers on the Gargoyle and Executioner.

I don't think mixtech is a good or interesting idea though.

Anything that would make the factions less distinct from each other is boring IMO. I want IS and Clan to be MORE different in playstyle and feel than they are now, not less.

would depend on if it was true mix tech, or jsut mix weapon tech. If C-XL and Endo and FF and DHS still were clan chassis dependant, then I think in many cases the Clan Chassis would still be better.

If it's all out mixed tech, then it will be IS Chassis (high hardpoint or mass vomit only) all clan components, and a mix of weapons. The IS ACs are still in most cases better (UACs are darn good now, but PP-FLD does have it's rather strong advantage, at least on the AC10/20), and I could see some arguments for IS Standard and Pulse lasers (medium large) because of beam duration, but not a gambling man enough to call which would "meta" out.

Stalker-4N
6 c LPL or c erLL or clan LPL/MPL mixture
Clan XL 300
Packed full of Clan DHS

Have fun with that grouped chain fire.

No thanks, just advance the timeline so there's more diverse and specialized weaponry and tech to select from.

No thanks on tech mixing. It would introduce too many balance issues (with the best 'Mechs getting even stronger thanks to having their choice of the best equipment) and obsolete a whole bevy of components and weapons (like IS Gauss and every single IS engine) while not really adding anything new to gameplay.

Thoughts? I'd probably quit the day MWO finally becomes a truly generic robot shooter, if not well sooner.

Would be mostly Clan tech on IS chassis with a few Clan mechs mounting iMPLS or iLPLs.

cSRMs > iSRMs, because half weight, half crit
cSSRMs > iSSRMs, because more than SSRM2 for Clans
cLRMs > iLRMs, see SRMs

cUAC2 > AC2
AC5/UAC5 > cUAC5
cUAC10 = AC10
AC20 > cUAC20

cLB10X > iLB10X

iPPC > cERPPC >>>>>>>>>>> iERPPC

The lasers don't analog on a 1 to 1 basis, so here goes.

iSL and iSPL are only taken a percent of a percent of IS mechs because they're that bad.

Here's the rest of the match ups:
  • Six cERSLs generate 30 damage in 1.00s for 18 heat out to 200m for 6 crits and 3 tons VS six iMLs that generate 30 damage in 0.90s for 24 heat out to 270m for 6 crits and 6 tons.
  • Six cSPLs generate 36 damage in 0.75s for 18 heat out to 165m for 6 crits and 6 tons VS six iMPLs that generate 36 damage in 0.60s for 24 heat out to 220m for 6 crits and 12 tons.
  • Three iLLs generate 27 damage in 1.00s for 21 heat out to 450m for 6 crits and 15 tons VS four cERMLs that generate 28 damage in 1.15s for 24 heat out to 405m for 4 crits and 4 tons
  • Three iLLs generate 27 damage in 1.00s for 21 heat out to 450m for 6 crits and 15 tons VS two cLPLs that generate 26 damage in 1.12s for 20 heat out to 600m for 4 crits and 12 tons.
  • Three iERLLs generate 27 damage in 1.25s for 24 heat out to 675m for 6 crits and 15 tons VS two cLPLs that generate 26 damage in 1.12s for 20 heat out to 600m for 4 crits and 12 tons.
  • Three iERLLs generate 27 damage in 1.25s for 24 heat out to 675m for 6 crits and 15 tons VS two cERLLs that generate 22 damage in 1.5s for 20 heat out to 740m for 2 crits and 8 tons.
  • Three iLPLs generate 33 damage in 0.67s for 21 heat out to 365m for 6 crits and 21 tons VS four cMPLs that generate 32 damage in 0.85s for 24 heat out to 330m for 4 crits and 8 tons.

And if IS mechs get to have their quirks also work for the Clantech weapons, there would literally be almost no reason to ever use IS weapons.

No. I'd just read the PTS forums and occasionally critique the changes as if I had played on the Public Test Servers. What? You know you were thinking the same thing. Posted Image

ya true, the idea isnt to Ever allow Mixed Tech, but to see how Tech Fairs when Choice is given,
why do players choose ISLL over Clan ErLL, why do Players Take PPCs over ERPPCs?
i see the Problems with Mixed Tech, and im not Advocating its release just a test,

You can look at the weapon stats and see why things are chosen or would be chosen over others. You don't need to waste man hours creating and running a PTS that ~50 tops will use for the sake of doing it.

If I were to rewrite the BT lore, I'd make the Clans the descendants of an exiled Amaris.

Because that's how they behave and it's what they deserve.

OP I would

But my study would be more along the lines of Mech weight class (but that has to include weapons also)

The way it started was a CW unit wanted me to bring an assault for the first wave
I had just bought a BNC and was working on leveling it so that was my excuse

But I previously had a Victor and that thing would go down like a Jager used to
Also taking an Assault forces you to change up your drop deck
You bring more armor at the start but less at the end

Right now my IS drop deck is three heavies and a 55 to medium
This actually lets me take more armor into battle then if I took an Assault
Not to mention speed and fire power

Not sure what other people used to analyze this stuff

What would be help full is average time in battle stat
This would give effectiveness of Mechs by chassis

I even sent TheSilken a PM for an idea for an event
Called my heavies can beat your Assaults any day LOL
