Something that would add a unique trait and tactical advantage to a weapons would be PPC's that explode on contact for moderate splash damage in a area.

It has been in past games, in addition to the rather cool looking flying star PPC (which I do prefer). And would make PPC's more of a siege weapon compared to the pinpoint power of a laser. PPC's are kind of lackluster compared to lasers when it comes to heat and damage and all, doing something like making the PPC having instant projectile speed and more direct damage would just make it a even bigger large laser, and over lap too much.

Also to add a bit more coolness to the PPC, have at the tip of the stream a flickering star, that is the projectile itself (with the current white and blue ray of ions be the trail of the star). The velocity and all else can stay the same but just to add a added coolness to it.

Another idea is that a powerful explosive version of the PPC could be a different version from the standard version or a new bigger one like the heavy PPC

LRMS do act as a indirect sort of artillery weapon, but a interesting missile I like from the games is the Arrow V launcher, one big long ranged missile that hits for heavy damage that can splash.

And so projectile guns are not left out of interesting siege weapons, release a long tom gun or some kind of mech version of a big artillery gun like what was in mech warrior mercenarys 3 if I recall. In addition to hitting very heavy and having a big spash that could hurt multiple mechs it had a hefty arc, and took up 30 tones on itself so it certainly had drawbacks and nearly insane to ever shoot at something point blank to yourself.

These news ideas for weapons filling a very important role in the game of mech based artillery that is true to it and nature of warfare in mech warrior while having good drawbacks and encourage teamwork.
