Saw a video yesterday of a DWF with 8 lasers. Looked like chainfire but he was shooting two at a time. Didn't know that was possible.

My DWF has 4 lpl. Which is not as bad as it sounds, snipers get a 52 point snootful, and with 15 heatsinks and 2 cooler consumables, I maintain a pretty good rate of fire. You don't have to remind of the limitations, I get killed a bunch of times for every time I rack up decent points.

Anyway... my reaction to the laser vomit was... enthusiastic. I spent half of my rapidly dwindling stash to get the lasers, and the cooling module.

Then I couldn't figure out how to set the darn thing up, and searching confused me. I am retired, and a lot of computer things confuse me.

Do we still use Auto Hot Key? I am a little surprised PGI hasn't added this to their menus.

I'd like to thank everyone for all the help and patience, even the argumentative ones. :}

Edit, it may not have been chainfire, but the spacing between firing was always the same, about 1/2 second.

Mouse button one, two lasers, chain fired.

Mouse button two, other two lasers, chain fired.

Hold down both buttons, and there you go, two by two shots.

....or use fire control tool and make 4x2 laser weapon groups (no chain fire)

Most likely the person was using a 3rd party program to allow it to happen. Hoping that MWO detects them and bans them!

2 groups w/ 4 weapons each, both set to chainfire. 2 buttons held down = constant 2 weapon chainfire spam.

I wouldn´t hold my breath, as macro use (for ex. teh mentioned Autohotkey app) is explicitly allowed in the CoC. As well as near impossible to reliably detect even if it weren´t, as there is nothing you can do with macros that you can´t do by hand with practice. Posted Image

Its setting up two different groups for each arm then backspacing on one for group one to chain fire then going to group two (with arrow).

Then click both left and right mouse button for two shot chain.

A big advantage of doing that way is that the two groups are left and right arms, and no matter how many heat sinks you can still overheat trying to go though all the lasers too quickly. Lets say you behind a wall or bit of canyon or other cover and peak out left side or right side, just shoot the lasers on the exposed arm, don't waste the heat and use lasers shots from the other side that is behind a wall. So you can get just as much laser power as one can get just shooting one side.

Thanks, I tried that and it worked.

However, I missed having an alpha strike, and the rate of damage I was inflicting wasn't much different. I went back to the 4 pulse lasers.

Not sure why I like the DWF, I typically get twice the damage points in the King Crab, more like what I'd get in a medium.

Just set up a third group with all weapons and no chainfire, that´s your alpha button...

I do exactly this on my Direstars, 3-4 chainfire groups for the approach, and weapon group 5 is the "onehit anything+shutdown to cool off" button Posted Image

How the heck do you turn chainfire off?

Zerberus, I might try that sometime if I ever figure out how to do it. This version keeps me wishing it was more like MW4.

Such macros are allowed and completely unnecessary to achieve the described firing pattern.

I use a Naga Mouse, and do not use macros . Well, I dabbled with a macro back when the Jagermech with 6 AC2s was the new thing, just to have that full mini gun feel, but no macros since then.

If I wanted to fire 8 ML, 2 at a time, I would set up mouse 1 to fire 2, mouse 2 to fire 2, mouse 4 to fire 2 and mouse 5 to fire 2. I would also set up mouse 6 as a alpha strike. Personally, I am not a fan of that distribution of my lasers.

In my Hunchie 4P i run 7 ML and 2 MPL. I have the 2 MPL set as mouse 1. My head laser is set as mouse 5. I then have my 6 ML hunch set up on chain fire on mouse 2. I also have all 6 ML set as group fire on mouse 4. That allows me to fire my MPL alone, my head laser alone for ghost heat reasons, and my 6 ML hunch can fire one at a time, or I can fire the full 6ML when needed. I like the flexibility, but heat can still be a problem.

Long story short, there are a lot of ways to achieve what you saw without macros, and macros tend to be less than good in this game. You are better off just learning to use your weapons properly than trying to find a macro to do it for you.

left + right arrows to highlight the weapon group, then press "Backspace" to toggle chainfire +groupfire. If you see a black line moving from top to bottom, the group is set to chainfire.

Here we have to disagree, I feel MW4 MP was an abomination that had nothing really to do with what a Battletech game should be. Different strokes Posted Image
