Even if the game doesn't instantly end when one team is fully killed off, the surviving team is virtually guaranteed to win if there are no survivors to challenge them. Thus, killing all enemies still makes you basically win even you have to wait around for 5 minutes after you killed them.
With the popular attitudes of the player base, this will never change. You'll take your 4th deathmatch/skirmish variant, and you'll like it.

However, depending on the mode, the surviving team shouldn't necessarily be the winning team. Otherwise, the game will always be skirmish/deathmatch, just with a different name.

Sounds like the gamemode needs RESPAWNS....
Probably the best way to fix ... because if the gamemode just ended when the enemy mechs die... then its just another tarded version of Skirmish...

Assault could be redone to focus on base destruction instead of capture and would be a much better mode for it. There are a lot of other mode types that would fit MWO better than conquest and domination. A version of rush would be great for CW. Asymmetrical modes would bea good fit. Escort missions once AI comes in... one team has to escort a mobile base to a map location, and the other team has to destroy it. Maybe the base starts in the middle of the map and slowly travels to the friendly extraction zone.
Maybe an extraction mode where one team has to cross the map and reach a friendly drop zone and the enemy has to prevent them from extracting.
I dunno. Lots of possibilities. But stand in a square for a certain amount of time is not really fun in a game about s tompy robots of destruction.

Good call. Because, for all intents and purposes, it is a bug if the match is still going while the other team is dead. Surely, nobody would purposely design it that way.
