It is ok. Not great, but not terrible either. I wound up forgoing missiles entirely on the Tempest and just doing LPLs because the IS ones are amazing. Hoping the extra structure makes them a bit better.

Even with these buff's the archer is still not the greatest LRM boat. The 5 W will use smaller lauchers (LRM 5's) so a 5% cooldown is ok. Now the other ones the 5S should have 10% cool down at most due to the 5 missile hard ponts. The other two the could have 15% buffs and maybe a 5% buff with LRM 20's. Even the 2R I am on the fence with a 15% buff since it has 3 missile hard points. Why a 20 % buff for LRM 20's? They are what people expect on most archers and the 5.5 second cool down is a bit long.
When looking for a LRM boat first see what the cool down is.
Second see what the heat reduction is.
Third what is the velocity buff is.
fourth is there any range buff (note I think that they got rid of these buffs)
If all of these are 10% that is going to be a decent LRM boat, unless you have LRM 5's.
If the cool down is 15% or 20% then you are getting into interesting territory when you fire in chain fire. Although a 30% buff for LRM 20's on the archer would seem nice when elites are done with the module for cooldown at 47% or firing ever 2.9 seconds. Now with a 10% buff, elite skill 5% and cool down module 12% that is a hair over 4 seconds or 27% cool down on LRM 20's
Then heat reduction, if they are 15% or 20% the volume of fire that you can sustain is a huge benefit. Even 10% is nothing to laugh at.
The velocity, well at 170 m/s people were just crying, hell they were balling. So the 10% buff gives you a 176 m/s speed of missiles. I Just want to see a mech with a 20% velocity buff or 192 m/s. I have some evil thoughts on how to use this, but 10% seems fine for nailing those mechs trying to peak around a corner.
Then range quirks they took out, but hearing the balling of the mist linx pilots at 1200 m getting legged and killed before they could get to the 1225 m range was music to my ears. Sure now you have to use the range module to 1100 m, but the 5%, 10% or 12.5% range quirk was fun to play with.

Nope, seems that they're still pretty mediocre. SRM ghost heat makes the missile boating one useless except with LRMs, and LRMs are a frustrating weapon to use. I really hate how people say "get your own locks," refuse to press R, and then proceed to complain when you go to the front. The STs on the thing make XL engines death if you face enemies at much more than a thirty degree angle, and face-staring isn't much better even if you can manage to not get flanked. The Tempest is ok as a laser machine, but a lot of other 'Mechs do it better. Like anything Thunderbolt, most Cataphracts, and even Grasshoppers just off the top of my head.
