Bounty System. Kill the known teamkiller to earn cbills from data compiled in the previous matches the player was in.

If the team that killed the teamkiller loses, players are compensated an extra 30K Cbills.
for tks next 3 quick/cw drops? This (imo) would seriously motivate players "for the hunt" new fun mechanic, might attract more players.
Another option would be that a set amount or % cbills be extracted from said tker even into -minus cbills or even -parts/modules lolPosted Image forcing tker to play trial mechs again haha

To some this may sound harsh but if your *deliberately* going to "handicap" your team then simply putting them in the "time out" corner should not suffice.

I cannot say I'm in favor of lowering the team damage/kill penalties in any fashion.

If anything, the penalties should be boosted, particularly for team kills, and most especially for multiple tk's in a single match or day.
Banning for hours or even a day doesn't seem unreasonable to me for repeat offenders. A single kill can happen by accident, the current penalty for that is probably fine, but more than one? You are either being an intentional jerk or are a lousy enough player that everybody else is better off without your presence for a long time.

For the occasional stuff, folks need stiff penalties to encourage learning, but not so stiff that real accidents are hit too harshly.

I am rarely involved in extensive team damage, but because I use a 2xGauss set up, when I do zap a teammate, it's pretty nasty. Especially when it's late in a match and everyone's already tore up. Yesterday there was a teammate in front of an opponent farther down range, and when I turned and hit R, it looked like the red box lit up around the friendly and I put two in their side torso before I snapped.

My point is that I've done some team damage and tripped off the automated penalty system, and it's no big deal. It only takes a few minutes, go make yourself a cuppa, relax and cool down, especially if you're coming out of some weird team-shootout event. The best thing the delay will do, especially if you're in a long session of immediate drop after drop, is de-sync you from the people who you just came out of that last match with. So if there was a lot of team shooting/killing, at least you won't be dropping with those a-hats anymore.

Only rare occasion or the like one might tk a player (imo) would be durring that "bloodlust" rush for last few players (happens quite often) players push and run in front of your weapons to get in a shot on your target (last few enemies).

There really is *many* numerous ways of addressing/discouraging the repetitive tk'er beside just giving him few hours to watch a movie (wash-rinse-repeat) IMHO this level of "pentaly" for multiple tks almost seems more of an encouragement.

?..
"bounty" system (as mentioned before, bonus cbill/xp ect. many would love that)
temp. name "flags",flashing mech ect.
"debuffs"
temp. all but "trial mech" lockouts
%earnings/holdings go toward tk'ed players
temp. spawning not in actual match, but in the "pit of hate/slime/disgust/jail"
community service
xform them into Llama or dump truckPosted Image
ect. ect ect

a *real* weighted "consequence" for player decision/action

This is a non-issue. The system is fine the way it is.

If you are triggering penalties often, learn to check your fire.

I suspect the number of people who are briefly in "time-out for bad behavior" any given minute is minuscule.

You want those people back in queue, simply to increase game population 0.05%?

You sound like someone who has not played a lot of events/challenges then. I usually see the number of TKs rise during events partly because people intentionally put themselves up in front of friendly fire for that last kill or shot.

Yes, I've had teamkills and team damage. It happens. But I've never had more than one teamkill in a four hour stretch. And I've had some four hour bouts with MWO on a lazy weekend. Plus I drive the worst mechs in the game. And I'm a low-skill steering-wheel Underhiver, who just happens to be T3 because of Providence. I'm a jump-jet PPC bunnyhopper and unreformed LRMisher who runs mix-builds, popping random LRMs and wild lasers like a kid playing laser pointer with his cat. Yet doing more than 10-12 team damage in a game is unusual for me.

These dudes getting ten and twenty minute penalties are *intentionally* teamkilling. That's the only explanation. That, or they are just blazing and dropping arty or airstrikes completely indiscriminately and not giving a tinker's damn what color icon is over the guy in the crosshairs. And they deserve the time-outs they get for it. When I goof and drop a teamie with a two-point hit to his open back because he jumped in front of me right as I trigger a 30-point alpha strike, I apologize on chat, then take my penalty like all the rest and deal with it.

Leave the team damage in, because unlike a lot of stupid mechanics in the game, that one really does promote skill. To hit the bad guy in a melee, and not just hose away like a kindergartner on meth toting a machine gun.

I see people just randomly jumping into a team mate's firing lane just to steal the kill. That's the real problem with team damage, in my experience. Everyone is greedy and just wants that kill. These players are as bad as those who hide in the 2nd and 3rd lines while their teammates get ripped up softening the enemy, then they swoop in to feed on the carrion and rack up a bunch of kills.

I see maybe one on occasion durring the "bloodlust" rush for last small handful of enemies (as mentioned before and after) team damage happens alot when you compress players together tightly on any map shooting same target/s

HOWEVER do you sit back and say "This is a non-issue. The system is fine the way it is" when players rack up several tks willingly and puposely?
Do you treat these individuals the same and say oh you just need to "learn to check your fire" when said individuals tk you at the spawn point? tk you when your font of them and they want shoot your target tk you as they are "testing thier weapon groups" (perfectly fine hill over there)

How about if you see player tk on purpose? do you just sit there say "none my biz"?

I personally as a random player will shoot these jokers for the simple reason that I dont want them on my backdoor or tking members Im depending on to advance.
I say if you kill the killers then they may be less inclined to play this game next match
(why should anyone have to fight the enemy and worry about some tk loser)?
There is no excuse for this "behavior" If your that *thin-skinned* go play something else

Yes. It's a non-issue. If they TK, they will be out of the picture. It's built into the game. Immature morons get a time-out. Why would I want to join them by firing back?

Seems like you identify the solution in your description. If someone steps into "your" firing lane, don't be greedy and try to fire through them. Show some discipline and check your fire.

I think P.G.I got this penalty just right.

Frankly I don't know how people are getting the second penalty, unless they are just extremely bad shots or are deliberately shooting into friendlies.

To get hit for a ten minute penalty, means you've managed to reach this target three times in under an hour, the 20 minute means it's four times.

People complaining about this seem to think they have the right to shoot the crap out their own team and not be penalised

Because you only half read what people type?, let me clarify my view on this quote. "for the simple reason that I dont want them on my backdoor or tking members Im depending on to advance" No, sorry I wouldnt want some jerk player shooting at me either of course the "non-issue" you refer to perhaps more relates to the skittish players? that why one might rather run off then pull the "thorn" from the teams side =s

This is only too humorous (consider this). If you run through a sprinkler system and get wet who's fault is that?

likewise if you run thru someone's lasers/ac/ect then obviously its your own lack of something referred to as **COMMON SENSE** find another route and stay out of the street

Because you think that'll learn um? Have you tried checking your mini-map and using comms?

What if there were a flag that was placed on a multi-tk'er? Anything more than 1 tk in an hour (pick your number and time) would earn this flag, which would need to persist for say, a day?

I would suggest that this flag result in a player's target box being a different color for both friend and foe alike (perhaps purple if on the enemy, and green for the friendly?) Any damage or kill to a person so flagged would not be counted as team damage/kill.

So, this would give someone the social stigma of being labeled a tk'er, and would allow every player in a match to more readily target and kill the player.
Meanwhile, those who have the occasional misfortune to get a tk would still not be punished any worse than they are at present.

Here shadowkitty! Follow the ERLL pointer to my Assault Lance! Haha great visual.

As for TKers... how has nobody brought up the Report tool? Tab and click on their name (right click?). Select the report and move on with your life. The automated penalty is mostly to help avoid reports for accidental TKs and to teach fire discipline, not really to deal with serial or aggravated TKers. Use the report tool and encourage your teammates to do the same.

Sigh! This frontier justice thing is partly why the world now has a lunatic with access to the nuclear button that can end us all.

Instead, why not be creative? Why not have a special version of "Escort" where the TKer becomes the "VIP". There, gamplay enhanced.
